Squier Jaguar Short Scale club.

I ordered mine 5/22 and paid 144.49$ for it with shipping.
The squier jaguar short scale I a nice bass to see in squires line up. I won’t lie it’s not some bass to end all G.A.S or the last bass I will own but it is worth more then squier asks for them , the mere 169$ is a insult to the bass but I won’t complain about it , I love how little it costs for a great playing bass.
The bass is light, scary light I pick it up and almost throw it as I am use to hefting a musicman up. I give the finish an 8 out of 10, it’s not a flawless paint job but overall very nice looking, there were a few small marks on the neck and one weird paint mark in the black on the headstock.
The pickups are the best part for me, I think they sound great and I would see no reason to change them out unless you have a very specific sound in mind.
The hardware is all useable. the tuners are not the smoothest but hold tune just fine,, the chrome finishing is well done , the bridge stable and adjustable. No need to change anything unless you feel like it.
The set up on mine was well done, it’s not perfect and I will tweak it a bit but I was able to pull it out, tune it and use it with my band the next day.
If I were to give this a grade on a 5 star scale this would be a 4.5 for the price range it’s in. It’s a nice bass but I can see where more finishing time should have been spent and I have pointed that out in photos, each bass will vary so mine maybe sloppier then yours, merely cosmetic and not a concern to me as I intend to play mine not stare at it.
I do think these will go up at least 100$ more by xmas or sooner, order one now if you want one.
The alignment is very good on this bass , I have seen a lot of squier jazz basses with horrible alignment
I may get a bridge with multiple saddle slots so alignment is able to be perfected but overall it is very good on this. The D and G look a little off but thats due to how I took this photo.

Small factory blemish.
Serial number stating its from Indonesia and made in 2011.
Take the ce sticker off now , the wood will fade over time around it and these will eventually fall off leaving a light box of wood color, I took mine off day one.
Light glare.

More to the point I guess is how do the buckers sound compared to the P/J pups?
I've only seen a few... red ones and a think sunburst with the humbuckers....
I'm highly interested in buying this bass for this price.

Again, these short scales come in one pickup configuration, the P/J. The bass you're thinking of is the 34" scale Jaguar Special HB.
Then either Guitar Centers web site is wrong, or they make a 34" scale P/J version of this bass.
Well I like my Candy Apple Red one enough to treat it to a few upgrades. Quarter pounders and Labella deep talkers came in today. I spoke to my luthier tonite. We'll get together this weekend. I also want him the upgrade the pots and tone cap. Also dress the edges of the frets.

In your post you seemed to think the short scales had a model with a humbucker, they don't.
What length of string did you use? I could see where a G string from a short scale set might not reach the tuner. I ordered a red one. Can't wait to get it.
I used a short scale set - ENR71S. Fit perfectly. String length to spare.
Getting ready to pull the trigger on one of the SS Jags, I have a Bronco I use (and love) for Surf tones but thought the Jag would really complete the Surf look (if I buy one I'll repaint it to Surf Green and put a tort or parchment guard on it).
What flats seem to work best on the SS Jag. Not many choices on JustStrings website for short scale 30" flats.
Looking for tons of low end growl not clacky or bright tones. Any suggestions?

I'm a DAddario fan myself. I love their flats. But these days, it's always Halfs for me.

Ok - I can now cite a first flaw: the pots.
The pots, especially the pot for the neck pickup, goes from all the way on, to almost all the way off, with about a 25% turn.
Not fatal at this moment, but I'll have to get rid of those.

I bought the $299 VM Jaguar (paid $250 total new) and liked it so much I got the SS also ($144). Out of both the only defect is some tiny pitting on top edge of the control's chrome plate on the SS. Finish, controls and everything is fine on both of them. I put Chromes on one and ordered deep talkers for the SS and have been playing them instead of my vintage Fender P and J Basses.
