Still no luck finding an inexpensive hard shell Case for the SS? Anyone? I did get a free long scale case from MF cuz the original one had a latch that didnt line up well.
They just sent me a new case and said I didn't have to send the other one back so I've been Keeping the SS in that. :)

I meant $144. for the SS. Lol. I got it from Spotlightmusicstore.com after reading on this thread that they had 15% off thru Memorial day. I called them the day after the Sale ended but they were on backorder so I ordered it for $144 total and got it last Weds.

One other thing I'd say about the SS's is: the tuners. Now that I have logged more time with them - they're ok, but - they could be better. I'm pretty sure I'm going to replace them - if I can ever find out what the post hole diameter is without having to take one off.

Finish, controls and everything is fine on both of them. I put Chromes on one and ordered deep talkers for the SS and have been playing them instead of my vintage Fender P and J Basses.

Back in May I bought a SS Jag in CAR from MF that arrived with a finish blister on the upper bout about the size of a quarter. Sent it back for a swap but MF was out of the red ones by the time they received my return. Customer Service told me my replacement Jag should ship by July 8. Didn't want to wait that long and I've seen the Squier backorder process frequently involves pushed-back ship dates.

The local Sam Ash had a red one coming in and I was present when it was opened. Damned if it didn't have a ding on the headstock. Fortunately the ding was small and Sam Ash honored my MF price of $153 so I went ahead and took it, albeit reluctantly. Sounds OK and everything else is pretty much identical with the first Jag, which is to say that it's acceptable. Not primo, but acceptable for what I paid.

My point is this: QC seems to be all over the map with this particular Squier Jag model. So far I have seen several examples of finish issues, sharp frets, misaligned pickups, and control knobs that don't fit (or work) correctly. Additionally, this particular guitar comes single-boxed all the way from Indonesia with nothing more than a flimsy thin foam bag for protection. Yeah, someone like Sweetwater might double-box it for the trip to your house, but I'll bet they don't open every one and inspect them for damage.

Sadly, I would have to recommend NOT ordering one of these directly. Instead, buy one off the rack at your local music store that you can closely inspect . These are really cheaply made guitars. If you get a good one then it can be a keeper, but there is just too much variation from axe to axe to trust the mail-order process. Of course, this is just my humble opinion, but I've been futzing around with this mess trying to get a decent bass for almost a month now.

This is not a Squier hate post; just trying to give fair warning to those who might be sitting on the fence trying to decide whether or not to pull the trigger...

I think it was... That's horrible. I almost typed "no offense to the owner" but then I rethought it. Definite offense.

I played a bunch of basses this weekend. I really thought I wanted a Gibson SG reissue or one of the new Gretsch elecromatics, but the cheap little Squier blew them away for me. I've got one in my sights.

The above Modded bass has a 1 piece pickguard, non=stock (SS) color, a headstock string retainer, upgraded bridge, and a Fender decal. The ad says "Fender/DhD Custom Shop" And a chambered body.

I dunno, just what I see in the ad. Is it a Fender Custom Shop?
A third look at the ad...it might be a 2 piece PG.

Ever since i saw an ad in bassplayer magazine i knew i had to get one of these and a bit over a week ago i placed an order and today i got it. When i unpacked it i noticed that one of the tuner pegs was broken. Luckily i had a set of black hipshot ultralites at hand and put them on.

What can i say, what a great short scale bass. The p pups especially sound really great, not too sure about the j pup yet though. I did notice that i liked it best with the tone rolled down so i'll definately put some chromes on it.

So the Ultralites fit. Did you fill the other screw holes with anything?

I noticed this, too. Chambered body? Fender Custom Shop? The body looks weird to me, but that might just be the angle of the photo or the shape of the pickguard.

At first glance, I'm not so sure this is the new Jag Special SS...but then again, I'm not sure what it is.

The guy posting the auction has 100% seller feedback on 31 transactions, but they're mostly for small ticket items from repeat buyers. I really don't know what to think about this one.

anesthetist is #11. The Ultralights look great. Did they do anything about the neck dive?
