Squier Jazz Bass nut

No it will not be to low, here is a picture of that same tusq nut I mentioned above on my vintage modified 77

The nut slot will be flat. Squiers would be a little more pricey if they had finessed features like a radiused nut slot.

I saw a video of Fender neck slot cutting jig. It is a long arbor with a blade for each fret and the nut slot. They clamp the neck on a pivoting frame and It is swung past the rotating blades in an arc. That’s why it’s radiused: not because it’s boutique or swish, rather the jig is designed that way to make one large, simple no skill required, repeatable operation. That’s Fender’s way, maybe not others.

I can’t find the video now.

My guess is that the overseas factories just use a different (newer) apparatus that passes the blades straight across the neck instead of swinging the neck past the blades in an arc.

I saw Tusc nuts that had a small foot in the middle of the arc, if you had a flat nut slot, it dropped right in, if it was curved, you filed the foot out. Not sure if these are available for bass, though.

I have the same problem with a vintage modified Squier jaguar full scale bass (the earlier passive model that came with Duncan Designed pickups) with the concentric knobs. But I think it should be a problem with all Squier basses, I don't know why more people aren't upset. Tusq is catering more to guitars like Harley Benton now with the 12" radius on flat bottomed bass nuts. That bass is weird though I had to do a lot of research to make I got the right dimensions on the pick guard, the jack plate is slightly smaller.

If you want Tusq get the PQL 3834 and just sand it down the bottom until the middle two strings are right, attach it, then file down the nuts slots on the E and G strings so they're the correct height. Get an automotive feeler gauge to measure first fret action. For now I'm just being lazy and sticking with the stock nut, it's not horrible. I bought the guitar used a couple years ago.

I only consider that half a solution anyway. I can't get any of the jazz bone nut sellers on Amazon to give me an answer about the radius of theirs either.
