Squier JV Owners!

Im getting one in a trade in the coming week, and I want some opinions. I have longed for one for a long time, and I got a great one in a trade.

1982 '57 Reissue.

Opinions? Thoughts?

I have heard they have great quality. I did a search, but I want some of my own opinions! ;)

Thanks in advance!

Plus, Im the owner of a vintage instrument.. Thats pretty darn cool.

THE BEST MIJ OF ALL TIMES! Do I need to say more? Ok lets just put it this way, JVs are still not so popular in the US but in the UK, Europe and Australia, this is a very sought after Japan Fender/Squier because the quality is just superb. I have never encountered any JV owners/players who were dissatisfied. Even at Stratocaster forum, JVs always have good reviews. Some players even swear their JV Strats smoke down US Fenders made at the same period.

Thats great to know Kenji! Thats awesome!

The original neck has been refretted professionally, and sadly the decal was reuined while being re-nitro'd.

I plan to get a period correct one and replace it.

My MIA and JV will stay standard, but the JV is coming with an extra all maple Allparts neck I plan to defret and put on my Squier VM Precision.

Then my SX will probably become my "learn to mod" bass, J pickup, new wiring, etc.

Nice.

May I suggest D standard tuning for either your MIA or JV. By D standard, I mean DGCF, low to high, (to avoid confusion).

My P is currently tuned that way and it's good fun, makes you think a bit more, plus, you get a low D :D

I can only talk about my JV strat here - I've had it since '88, modded it over and again (never knew until the internet told me that it was reasonably valuable!) ... during that time I've had numerous guitars, including strats (Jeff Beck sig, Hendrix tribute, Jimmie Vaughan sig etc) - and this is the only one I've hung on to. Sound/vibe, second to none. All I've heard about the basses is that they are every bit as good as the guitars.

In the UK in the 80s, no line was drawn in shops or amongst many musicians between Fender and Squier, because the JVs and SQs were easily as good as their US counterparts, and a fair bit cheaper. Most of us referred to Squiers as Fenders, and they were commonly used by pros (the prog scene at the time seemed to be full of Squier strats!) - in fact I found the receipt for my strat in a box recently and it says 'Fender' ...

Its an SQ for the following reasons:

1. There were no JV P in black finish. All JV P were finished only in sunburst, red and vintage white.
2. The teardrop plug on the headstock was on SQ only, not on JV.
3. The skunk stripe at the back of the neck was on SQ only, not on JV.
