Squier Models Disappearing ??

Could it be their "Stop Dreaming and Start Playing" campaign wasn't as successful as the CV and VM series?

You can bet Fender see's all the Squier VS Fender whizzin matches on the forums and is trying to create a greater divide
between entry level Squier's and the more expensive Fender logo.

All they did was what virtually every other company with 2 different brand lines did...move them to their own sites.

Affinities were upgraded a year or so ago, jazz's in new colours and PJ's brought in and no standard P's.

Squier had it's own web site a long time ago, Fender had a link to it through the Support tab on their page, but at some point they reworked the page and added a more direct link in a tab right on the main Fender page, gone now.

I wouldn't read into such a minor change, especially when the international sites all still have the Fender & Squier models all on 1 page.

On the used market. Not the retail market. They have a retail price and stick to it. And retailers always slash prices on models on the way out negating that theory.

Just FWIW, all of the Vintage Modified PJ basses I have seen have silver magnets. Never seen one factory that had black.

Mine has the DiMarzio like Jazz pickup, double set screws ......

I think that going from a site where the Fender and Squier versions of each model are intermingled on a single page to where the Squier stuff is on a totally separate site from the Fender stuff and with no obvious navigation between the sites, is a significant change in marketing. I suspect the rave reviews of the Squier CV and VM models has diluted the value of the Fender-branded MIM and Asian offerings. Competing against yourself creates some marketing challenges, I suppose.

The profit margin on most models is the same. So, they're not really losing out. All that's happening is a shift in the mentality that you have to spend more to get a much better instrument. The CVs are very close in quality to the new MIMs, and for much less money. The Chinese Fenders are going to kill themselves because they have no traditional offerings, and that puts people off. That said, there are upper level MIMs that are to American Fenders what the CVs are to the MIM Standards. There's nothing wrong with competing with yourself. The money all goes to the same place.

That's common for all the bridge J's introduced on PJs for Squier in 2013. The Jag has that, too.

Bwa ha ha - you're right. 6 string VM Mustang guitars are plentiful.
It'd take a good amount of modding to turn it into a bass though. LOL

If Fender is making the same profits across the board, then why would they even bother with MIA's, or even MIM's when they could build nothing but Squiers and make the same money?, doesn't work that way.
