Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

You guys must have been napping when I scored this off eBay for under $260 shipped. Super clean, few little nicks here and there and old strings. Came with a peavey hardshell case someone modded to fit it but hey it works. I dont play short scale much but I think I may just sit on this bass and keep it around for fun as I have slowly seen the prices on these increase. I didnt expect to win the bass as I entered a low bid like $202 and won plus shipping and sales tax.

My first time playing a vista series and now I get the rave, I have had a 70s Fender mustang, 3 70s musicmasters , a 90s Mustang and 2 squier jaguar SS basses and this is better then all those and cheaper then all them but the Jags.

I was watching that but forgot about it. I seem to do that a lot when I'm in a hurry to get to a golf course.

I sometimes get lucky I guess, I just submit low bids that 99% of the time dont win.

Dilemma being I dig it and a buddy whose girlfriend plays bass in a band, well his fiance now, she plays some rogue beatle bass knock off that sucks and has for years now. He was over and played it and said dude this is sweet I really would like to buy it for her as a engagement gift as I never got her anything and she was actually looking at squier mustangs online as the rogue is about 2 gigs away from death......sighhh I may have to give in, I feel like a greedy hoarder with all these basses and him being able to look like a flipping badass dude in her eyes, yep think I gotta let him grab it off me.

Tell him he can pry it from your cold dead hands. Then tell him to look on ebay. There's a black one for $149 that ends in 11hrs.

Definitely sell her the bass. Pink is for girls and it will never look as cool with you playing it as it will being played by her. Then go out and get thee a black, white or surf blue one!
Oh and please post a picture of her with the bass!

Idk what these are truly worth but he asked what I paid and I said $260 and he said are they worth more, I said yeah not much more but this color fetches more. I told him it was cool not to sweat it he could have it for $260 but he insisted on giving me $350 for it and thata newer Mustang after tax was right around that and didnt feel as nice nor was it pink, so I sold it. I am going to use the cash to buy a different colored one and hopefully have enough cash to get a good case!

I will try to get her playing a gig with it, me and him are cleaning the bass up tomorrow and restringing it and wrapping it up for her. I figured I owe that to him after the profit he gave me.

Good move. She gets what will probably be the perfect bass for her and you get to shop for another Vista MusicMaster. You'll probably find another color and have some dough left over. It's win-win!

Got a white one coming in this week, I'd like to find a surf green one too...and pink...and black..and anyway

Here's a proposal:

Nobody here seems exactly clear on who made the pickup..I think it looks like a Seymour, and as I am an endorser, I will find out the back story. I have also had SD custom shop pickups made as far as size, windings, etc..so.. if there's enough interest here, they could do a custom shop like the original..I'll ask, they are really great people and easy to work with.

They have a lot of flavors for their SCPB pickups..the one I had in the tele in my avatar was a stacked sc that sounded fantastic and eliminated all hum/buzz too. How about one like that? Best of both worlds, and would look dead stock. Also split-able, if you wanted the raw sc sound that's there too.

Sounds cool. I'm not ready to sign on the dotted line, but I'd like to find out more. I love the sound of the original pup but if I could eliminate the hum, I might be onboard. I dig the idea of split-able, too.

So I am a new owner of one of these in the "surf green" color. I was hoping to gig it this weekend but the single coil hum is loud, A/B'd with all me basses-even my single coil jazz and the buzz is really loud. I'm afraid I'll get the evil eye from sound man and bandmates so will probably bring my jazz as a backup. Dimming the tone knob is not a strategy as the buzz is still there... any suggestions?

I still haven't heard back re the stacked SC pickup from Seymour Duncan..but hopefully soon. Shielding helps too.

Hey, congratulations. Surf green is a great color on the Musicmasters. I have the same problem. I did a full copper shielding and it only slightly helped. I'm open to suggestions, too. Johnp352's pickup sounds cool. I just want to keep the tone I already have. But if it's cheap enough, I'll give it a shot.

a blade humbucker would do it ..but they don't sound the same as 4 poles..and you have to figure out which one and and and..there's also a trick using a dummy coil under the pickguard, sorta the same idea, but ..not. Strat and tele owners have been doing things like this for years, which is why the mfg's have all those pickups for them..btw, congrats on the surf green..my white one just came through the door. FWIW, there's a black one for sale in the Cleveland Craigslist..at least there was a day or 2 ago..$250.

Yeah, I bought a cheap Dimarzio double rail pickup (I forgot which model) but still haven't gotten around to messing with it yet.

Thanks! I dig the white one too- there something about white on white that is so nice. Dummy coil... going to have to dig into information on how to do that. I like the sound of the pickup, it would be great if I can kill the hum without changing the pickup.

ok..it got here in one piece..first impressions..

Unbalanced/head heavy..not terrible but noticeable
a little on the heavy side too..
maybe some hipshot lightweight tuners are in order.

plays ok, needs flats and a setup..this takes MEDIUM length strings right? Chromes sound like the right choice..
Bridge saddles/bridge in general pretty mehh..maybe..didn't someone here put a hipshot bridge on this?

but

this is a really nice sounding bass..got to be the pickup. Feels and plays way mo' better than the little bronco I am giving to a neighbor kid to learn on...more like a Mustang. the difference in volume between the 2 is pretty radical.

Question: I think whoever had this before me took the finish off the back of the neck..was the original a thick poly? it plays real smooth now.

and before I delve into modding land on this..anybody want to trade me a green one straight up? ;)

Cheers, and # please.
