Squier MusicMaster Vista Club

The patient is prepped and ready...

Pickup cavity. The green things are cut up 3x5's, just in case my fantastic skills at soldering fail...or my paranoia kicks in. Whichever is first.

Copper tape surrounding the p'up, underside of pickguard

Underneath the control plate. The dual pot is a TBX control, with gobs of solder to hold everything in place. My mad skills at the iron are kinda lacking...

Don't tell my wife I used her Canon EOS. Great pictures, lousy lighting.

*sigh*

THEE best short scale i have ever played was my Squier VM Musicmaster (White w/White pickguard). I had to sell it after a room mate couldn't afford their part of the rent.

I haven't seen one around whenever i've had the $$$ to get a new one. But, i DID pick up a Bronco 2 years ago, and moded it a bit to hearken my gone-but-not-forgotten VM Musicmaster.

So in the picture of the cavity you have one square piece of the copper foil on the bottom right of the photo extend out to the screw. This is for grounding, right? And then you let the foil extend outside the cavity all the way around so it connects with the pickguard foil, right?

Yes, and yes.

For some reason I had thought there were a few more people that had one of these, until I realized that its the Fender originals that I see popping up. Which is ok, I would love to get an original and Vista-ize it (better pickup, simpler controls, 4 saddle bridge).

I've never played the original Fender Musicmaster but I read somewhere that the neck on the Vista is more comfortable.

I bought a Vista MusicMaster new when they first came out. Black with the white pickguard. I was looking at an original MusicMaster (actually rented it for a week), but I preferred the reissue.

I used long scale chromes with a 100 E. Because of the large tuners the long scales where no problem.

Sold it a long time ago. Should have hung on to it... can't believe what they go for now.

My first post & my first bass.
Got this shell pink MusicMaster for £229 about a week ago.
Really fallen in love with it.
Been playing a shortscale duo sonic and this is a sweet partner.

Any recommendations for mods/cases/adjustments/care?

Cool bass. I always like that shell pink color. My recommendation is not to mod it. I like mine stock. Plus, when they were released they sold for $175 and are now selling for sometimes as much as $350 on ebay. Who knows, maybe someday it'll be worth more? They only manufactured them for about a year and I imagine there are far fewer Vistas over there in the UK.
