I have this case for my MusicMaster. It's a nice snug fit, the body doesn't lay completly flat, but put a folded up towel under it and problem solved.

I have this case for my MusicMaster. It's a nice snug fit, the body doesn't lay completly flat, but put a folded up towel under it and problem solved.
I'm thinking of bringing my Musicmaster with me on a trip. Do you think that case and a towel would survive airline abuse?
I carry my MusicMaster in a Gator Case that I have added towels for a snug fit. I'd take it anywhere.

The 'Fender' Musicmaster was my first real bass and it did the job. I'm thinking of picking up another one for some super funky, syncopated slap bass.
Man I almost got my hands on a black and a pink MM last year both were like $300, but they had flaky owners.
Use a bronco now, and fixing up an EB-0.

Sounds like you are well on your way to a short scale collection... just need an MM to round it out
I'm not saying the case is indestructible, but it seems just as sturdy as an other case I've ever owned. PM me your email if you wanna see some pics.
That's cool. The only thing that might concern me is the hinges breaking open. But I'll take your word for it.

Pickup cavity. The green things are cut up 3x5's, just in case my fantastic skills at soldering fail...or my paranoia kicks in. Whichever is first.

Underneath the control plate. The dual pot is a TBX control, with gobs of solder to hold everything in place. My mad skills at the iron are kinda lacking...

Hey Man, I wanted to follow up on this. Did the shielding make a big difference? Did it reduce "room" buzz?
From my perspective, yes, shielding the electronics helped. I haven't had any problems with hum or buzz as of yet. I say 'yet' because I don't play it outside my house as often I like. The open mike jam thing has started back up in my area, so it will give me [DEL]a chance[/DEL] an excuse to double check and field test everything again. You know, just in case...

It's hard to pin down, but 96 or 97 at the heart of the grunge era and then they discontinued them after one year. Other people may chime in and clarify. As far as I can tell all the other Squiers of that time were made in Japan but the Musicmaster Vista was made in China, which might explain why their quality is such an anomaly
As far as I can tell Squier Vista Musicmasters were available in 1997 only.
The neck does have a tiny bit of play at the case's neck cut-out (maybe a half inch), but I don't think it's an issuse, especially with the case closed. The headstock just kinda floats in there freely. Plenty of room all around it, even with my hand under the headstock.
Not sure if this is the answer that your looking for but I will say this:
When these photos were taken the bass had been in the case all day. It had just been thru a car ride, and moved from the trunk to back seat, and held in an upright position while entering my apartment. Basically, it had been moved a lot, and these pics are how the bass was resting when I opened the case.

Hey, does the Mustang have the same neck shape as the Musicmaster?
The MusicMaster neck feels flatter than the Mustang, I think that is the 7.5" neck radius, whereas the MusicMaster probably has a 9.5".
Interesting to know. I've been considering picking up a Squier Mustang for the stable. Curious about how it would stand up to the MusicMaster.
