I wish I could but some one painted the headstock dull black before me. Would there be any info if I took the neck off ? It is the only Squier bass that Talked to me straight out. Has been modded a lot with badaas II bridge,EMG active pups, and Schaller tunners.Man is it a heavy bass. My tech said it was a Squier but that is as far as he could go.
Before and after shots of my Squire affinity. Replaced the pickguard and bridge. The pickguard just required a minor amount of filing around the pickups. Other than that it fit just fine.
You'll find it difficult to buy one allen wrench. They're normally sold as sets, and are available rather inexpensively at many different retail stores such as Sears, Homer Depot, Lowes, Ace Hardware, and so on. Allen wrenches (also known as Hex Keys) are very common and quite available. Some music stores have extras kicking around since many stringed instruments come with them, so you may be able to score a freebie. But to be honest, just get a small 5 or 8 piece set, you'll find them useful for other things suchs as adjusting your string height at the braide saddles (which requires a much smaller size than the neck adjuster).
I would suggest avoiding the "jacknife" type sets that fold up into neat little packages, often times they won't work properly when adjusting the neck because their design prohibits them from properly turning without hitting the headstock. A small eight (or so) piece set shouldn't cost any more than $4.99 for an imported set. High quality sets can cost over $50.00. Just to give you a comparitive reference.

Smartassery aside, my VMJ has the SN on the BACK of the headstock .... so .. y'know ...... um .. check there? Maybe? Other than that I got nuthin .... well .. other than *Squier (I always remember that it's opposite of Chris SQUIRE).

I like to think of Squier as "a person who squies".

Sorry if I misspelled Squier. The bassist who owned this Jazz before me sanded the headstock front and back and painted the whole headstock flat black,then put on the Schaller tunners.So now there is no way for me to even know what series it is. I am probably going to take the black paint off and take it back to a normal look. I'm going to wait and see what she looks like with the new pickguard I purchased from a fellow TB'er before I deciede on gloss black or natural on the headstock. The only way I even know that she is a Squier is that is what the last owner told the local music store owner when he sold it to him. The truss rod adjustment is at the headstock so I am assuming this is correct.

I purchased it new two weeks ago.
I played one at gc a while back and figured if i got one with decent fret work i can swap pups and a preamp so i ordered 1 from MF i was very pleased and moved quickly to buy an audere JZ3 and yesterday i receieved my bart 57j1. I very happy with the results.
Now for pics!

NBD for me- my lefty Squire VM sunburst arrived. No sense starting a new thread about it, you all know what it looks like. I'll share the common opinion here that it is well made and quite a value for that price. Let the modding begin! I had a Squire strat in the 80s and couldn't get rid of it fast enough- this is a "whole 'nother animal"!
I did notice that the body is obviously three or four planks that pick up the stain differently- not like the pretty one-piece-looking poster boy they use in the ads, but not a big deal. After having had my Rogue Hofner knock-off for 10 years or so, this finally feels like a "big boy bass"!

I don't know the size.
But it's an Allen key (Inbus for us european's).
Those usually go in sets. buy one because you could use all sizes.
For your trussrod, bridge, amp, cab, Ikea furniture.

My VM jazz didn't have them... I even asked the GC guys about it. predictably, they claimed they had probably thrown them away and didn't think they had any in the back... No big deal, I have several sets, one specifically for adjusting my basses, I just wanted all the stuff my new bass was "supposed" to come with.
