Squier Paramormal Bass

Hi everyone,

Just wanted to get people opinion on the Squier Paranormal Bass, they are on sale at my local store, which i find strange since its a new Bass. What are people's experiences with it?

From the video reviews it seems like it is decent quality and I love the sound.

Any feedback and thoughts?

I bought one on impulse, and the build quality, fit and finish are fantastic. It's hard to believe its only 400 dollars or so. The pickups sound a bit thin if you have the two tone knobs all the way up, but it is easy to dial the tone knobs down and get a wide range of sounds. The neck is very thin top to bottom, but somewhat u shaped. Its not large, but it doesn't fit my hands and is somewhat uncomfortable for longer play times, but I think that's a personal preference thing, I prefer tall necks with a medium thickness. Overall great value for the money. I was blown away at how good of a jazz tone it got when I dialed it in.

Love mine. Got the white one. Plays and feels great. Upgraded a couple of things to make it my ultimate beater bass

I bought the 54J(9 lbs) a month ago but no longer with me after a week.
In term of QC, 54J cant match my Cort GB74JJ which i bought on last December 2020.
Tone wise, stock pup on 54J sound clean and clear but thin. The Cort GB74JJ has better output and warmth PLUS the pickups are noiseless ! Also better versatile passive/active on Cort .

That's a cool looking Bass! Squiers are built really well nowadays. Go for it!

Thanks for the input. What arrangement do you keep your knobs typically? haha weird sentence.

My local store is selling it for $450 CAD actually so it $354 USD. Pretty good deal. It is cheaper then all of the classic vibes.

Depends on the sound you want, both dimed are fine, one slightly rolled off makes for a great sound or one rolled all the off. Either solo'd sounds decent. I kept the pots stock since they were good alpha pots, tones are super usable.

Personally not a fan of the tone and this is a personal preference of mine but if I were to buy an instrument where it needs upgrades/parts then it's already reaching to Fender price territory and would just buy a fender from there without the hassle of labor work.

The fender didn't look like this and I'd still do the upgrades, this was the lowest price solid bass that was worth it to me. Besides it's fun to mod things. Find your sound and have fun!

They are really nice. The best quality Squier I have owned and I`ve had a few! The neck finish is super smooth but mine weighed in at just under 10 lb`s so it wasn`t going to hang around very long.

But a great playing bass stock and there`s not many Squiers I would say that about. Check out Low End Lobsters vid on youtube.

I keep volume at full on both, and around a bit less than half on the tone knobs. I usually just plug it in and adjust the tone on each individual pickup till I'm happy, than double check the tone with both pickups on.
