Squier Precision bass choices

Thats practically around the corner from me.

I have knack for finding things.
There's plenty of room left at $150 to upgrade tuners, pots, tone cap, pickup as needed/desired.

If it sounds and plays right I'd just leave it alone, don't fix what ain't broken.

It really depends on the bass that speaks to you.

During a recent visit to GC, I played every Fender and Squier P they had. Other than the $1500+ Fender, the Affinity was the best of the bunch. But on a previous visit a year or so ago, the CV was best.

I have a Squier VM Jazz 5. I played some before finding the right one.
Cannot compare to CV as there no 5 string, but the VM is really, really good, and nice looking in natural. A keeper that I can mod for cheap if/when needed.

I have some GAS for the CV 50's Precision bass.......love the headstock, single coil PUP, brass saddles, control panel and pickguard......don't like the white blonde colour ..........read good reviews, but haven't pulled the trigger yet

I had the blue CV 50's, sounded good and nice quality but the neck was an absolute baseball bat... not for me.

IME/IMO, the CV is the best series of Squiers

My advice is get the CV70P. If can, try the CV70P your self along with fender Player P at GC .

Classic vibe series won't treat you poorly.

70’s vibe PBass is the way to go.

You can’t go wrong with the Classic Vibe!!

Classic Vibe 60's P-bass for me. Most comfortable neck I've ever had. I prefer it to my mexican fenders.

But on a previous visit a year or so ago, the CV was best.

The Forum hath spoken! I've owned a couple CV '60s Jazzes, along with a parted-out neck, and all of them were either "very good" or "great". When questions like "If you could only have one, singular bass for under $300?" come around, I always vote for a CV in good working order.

There are CV's in his area for $125-150 more than that $150 VM.

If you love the looks of a 50's CV with the single coil and like the sound/tone of Dusty Hill I found the main ingredient, IMO. I finally broke down and spent the $150 and got the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop Stacked SCPB Pickup. Totally different tone from the stock and no feedback or noise even with loads of gain/distortion. It actually sounds a lot like a Hot Split Coil pickup. Mine is rippin Hot at 31.2 K. For some reason the CV has a wider string spacing than the the originals because of the bridge and the stock pickup is wider than everything on the market but, any regular 5 screw Fender bridge will work in it's place. The screw holes are slightly off but it worked out for me no problem. I have 5 or 6 Babicz Bridges and hope to eventually put them on all my instruments. I really like the stability.
