Squier quality control?

Not to make light of this thread, but what I found funny was a Squier VM I played recently was much better feeling to my hands than a G&L! And that same G&L had some fret buzz!! I am not faulting G&L in any way, it was a fantastic bass. The same goes for another VM Jazz I played that amost came home with me, and the VM Jazz that I own. I also played a Squier Special (I think it is called) that was a P/J setup with a Jazz neck, that too was a fantastic bass as well. However, FWIW, I would never condemn any bass or an entire line or the manufacturer over minor items like a stripped screw. That is one of the easiest things to handle!

And again, FWIW, I would expect to see these kinds of things on a sub 200 dollar bass. If you find a shop that goes over their instruments and offers a setup with every bass, or an online source that does the same, you might never see any of these problems in the first place.

Also, one must take into consideration that a floor model will not have the greatest setup. I attribute the "problems" with the G&L being either poor setup or a setup that was not comfortable to me. Perhaps this is your/an issue with the Squiers too.

If a guy was to learn some basic repairs, it goes a long way into saving money and headache in the long run. Unless you like paying a shop or a Luthier's hourly rate for a 10 minute fix.

Just some fancy thinkin on my part and as always, IMHO....

I own and play a few Tele Basses and 2 semi hollow bodies , Epi Allen Woody and my Hofner Club.

My guitar teach showed me his new Vintage Squire Precision (blue color) this week.I played it and thought, why did I spend 750.00 on my basses. the Squire was smokin and it has a "super hip" bridge.

Ok, so my Squier Vintage Modified P-Bass, with an agathis body, came with stripped screws (may have also been the setup I had done on it....)

I think it may be a one-off, bad-luck situation, so I'm planning on getting another P-Bass.

Has anyone else had similar quality problems? Is a Squier worth it? I know stripped screws are more likely to be on a P-Bass, since agathis (Squier) and alder (Fender) are both soft woods, but HOW common are they? I don't want another stripped-screw Squire.

you get what you pay for...

I agree, I mean come on it's not like you paid 1000 bucks for it.

I also play 2 Squiers a vmp and a P special and both had stripped srews. So what?

one of them had a figured maple neck so I am not complaining ;).
Though I regret buying th VM-p, I should have bought the vm jazz, evry time I see it, I want that thing more and more:D
