Squier sonic p bass sale

Public service announcement…. Fender has the sonic p bass on sale for Black Friday. $140 for graffiti yellow and $154 for the lime green. I think this is a fantastic deal. I got mine back during the Labor Day sale for $175 so I can enthusiastically recommend them at this price. Solid as they come but if you want to mod them it’s a no brainer. I was going to grab a candy apple red rascal bass (another great deal), but now I’m thinking about picking up a second P.

I ordered a Yellow one just because why not? Great deal for a knock around house bass.

Mine was built in Indonesia
Yeah, when I looked at the sunburst one on Fender's site it says Indonesia. However looking at the Yellow special edition it says China. I honestly don't care too much about Chinese production anymore, because the last couple of low end instruments that I worked on that were made in China were actually pretty good quality, especially if they were from a name brand company. I recently bought a bass that I saw on Temu that was 59 bucks for a natural finish P bass. It looked like a glarry but no name on the headstock. That was an amazingly good base. It set up quickly and it sounded really good.

Since I workout of my house based. doing bass guitar setups and things. of that nature. I will every now and then buy one of those inexpensive Chinese bass guitars if I see one on sale for a good price. Then I will put it on my bench and when I'm done with it, it will be a really nice playing instrument. Sometimes I donate them to the local music schools, or I will find someone who is a student and give it to them. I don't do it to make any money. I just do it so somebody's starting out and have a decent playing instrument. Because as we all know, nothing will kill your desire to play quicker than a instrument that plays like crap..

I got a yellow one a while back and gig it regularly. Like it so much I ordered another at this price! They punch WAY above their weight!

My current yellow one is Indonesian. We'll see about the new one in a few days...

Curious...has anyone dropped an EMG GZR pick up in one of these? If so, was it an improvement?
I upgraded mine with a SDQP pickup, and at the same time I also changed out the electronics with a new complete wiring kit from the art of tone. While I’m sure the pickup is a huge upgrade, I actually think the upgraded pots and capacitor are doing the real heavy lifting. The improvement in tone control really blew me away. Highly recommend for only $25.

If you are pick player, the stock ceramic actually sound close to model P character along with slightly more top end.

One of the nice sounding factory ceramic pickups I been playing. I keep one for my future day P bass.

I almost bought one of these as a mod platform as Fender had a great sale and some of them you could take an extra 10% off. I ultimately saw the olive green CME exclusive CV 60’s Jazz and pulled the trigger. Kyle even hooked it up with an extra 10% with a custominvoice emailed to me. It will be delivered to work on Monday.

I ended up going with the discounted CV (although more expensive) because I have a CV 60’s P bass that punches way above its class stock (frets were dressed great and a great set up made it amazing). Truly amazed a sub $500 bass this day and age can be so rad.

I wasn’t sure if the neck pocket on the sonics fit a FMIC standard neck and that was a reason I didn’t venture down the route. I tried searching to no avail. I did read that the bodies are thinner than standard. One of those Klos necks is calling my name and that was my driving force behind the purchase. My P was going to be that but honestly it sounds so good I don’t want to mess with it. And a Jazz with a graphite neck is very alluring and would be the Jazz counterpart to my Modulus Q5 SS.

I’m still thinking about ordering one of these Rascal basses because I am itching for a short scale and all reviews say they have a thick massive tone. Let’s see what the weekend brings lol.

If you go that route please share your experience.
