Squier vintage modified club

Finally finished replacing the chrome on my Squier.
I have a SD blackout pre that I'll probably install in the next few weeks too. :bassist:

I picked up one of these VM V's a few weeks back off of CL (Pic below) I've got to tell you, I am VERY impressed with the stock pickups (as well as the rest of it). They are amazingly full, round, warm and punchy.

Overall I am really impressed- especially since I picked it up for peanuts. The neck plays great with near perfect setup. The fit and finish is really very good. Only complaints- neck is a little wide for a 5 for my taste, it is on the heavier side of not-so-light, the input jack is crap and it's not a good match for my Genz 12t's at all (not really the bass's fault). I'll probably replace the jack and while I'm at it the pots too. The cavities ARE shielded (factory conductive paint with a ground lead). It is much quieter with the pickups solo'd than the 06 Std Jazz parked next to it.

They are great with fretless. A just add some high mids to open the sound a little. Very warm and singing sound :) But I think Bartolini Classic Series singles would fit better. Humbuckers are darker, so I need to use equalization. I hope, they would sound so great with fretted neck.
I had 9CBJS1 set on my MIM Fender Jazz Bass and was pretty happy with them.

I'll leave it at home. Maybe I'll buy a Mighty Mite body and make another bass. Or sell Squier and both neck with electronics and buy American Standart Fender Jazz Bass :)

speaking of pickups: I got both the vmj 4 and the cvj 4 - since I play tuned down a whole step on 4-stringers I thought I would appreciate the fatter bottom of the CVJ pickups. its there, but the odd thing is, once the signal goes through the board and out to the house, its not as distinct as the vmj. band mates and listeners much prefer the VMJ with stockers.
so, for the VMJ5 that should be here anytime now I was thinking of changing the neck pup to something beefier, leave the rear as is.... may have to sell the CVJ then..:crying:

Thanks J.Nuno! That is a MIM Jazz bass 5-string pickguard. I believe I got that one from Invalid Link Removed. I feel all pickguards are overpriced in general, but they do spice up the look sometimes. There was a small gap around the tip of the control plate where it meets up with the pickguard, but with some effort I managed to close it up pretty good. A tiny gap is still there, but it is difficult to see at this point. I think some creative filing around the neck pocket would help close the gap down by the tip of the control plate better as well.
