Squier Vintage Modified Jaguar Bass Special

Hi everyone.
I'm new to the forum and new to bass guitar.
I've been playing guitar for over 47 years and would like to add some bass to some home recordings (hobby)

I just need something to plug into the recorder. Of everything I've read these look promising. Nice looking too.

any one own this bass?

Welcome to the low end! I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I too like the silver/black color scheme. The stock pickup and preamp are fine but this one was purchased with the intention of installing different pickups (Thunderbuckers). I also will be having a new nut cut to replace the stock plastic one. It is the main drawback to better playability. The slots on mine were not cut wide or deep enough, making tuning harder than it should be and the action a bit too high at the nut. Otherwise, the neck is nice. No noticeable dead spots. IMO it's a good instrument for the price. :cool:

I swapped out the mirror pickguard with a Pearloid and swapped the pickups to Basslines Quarter Pounder P and J and I can see myself gigging with this bass regularly. Before I bought it from him he gigged with it for years stock and it sounded great and played great when I used to sit in with them.

Great bass for the money and is highly upgradable with standard parts.

Yeah I misread the title of the thread. :smug:

It sounds actually really good, for a bridge jazz pickup. Typical throaty sound you would expect from a J. I would say it sounds like my Jazz with Basslines but I have different Basslines in my jazz. Similar though.

The stock Squier pickup just made noise, not bad noise, just wasn't pronounced enough for me.

I received my Bass today and I couldn't be happier!

The pups sound really good.

The finish and frets are excellent.

The P pup is my favorite, very nice thump and very quiet.

Thanks for all your help!

G.A.S. is a horrible thing, I just got this Bass and I'm already thinking about a short scale...unbeliveable!
