I like my VM but I've always thought the break angle over the nut for the A string was too shallow. My MIM Fender doesn't have this issue, so I think it's due to the slightly smaller tuners on the VM. Being a $250 bass, I didn't want to spend any money on it and I also didn't want to drill extra holes in the headstock. This is what I came up with: a piece of scrap steel that I bent/filed and I reduced the height of the stock string retainer to compensate. It works and looks ok.
