Just picked one up today at GC. It sounded great when I cranked up the amp in the store. Those Duncan Design pickups are pretty hot for passives. I was impressed.

Squier VM Jaguar? Anyone?

I had one but it was several thousand kilometers away for about six months. It got here a couple days ago and I'm having tons of fun with it. It has a really nice neck and, even though the fretwork has some issues, plays so easy.
I'm still not a huge fan of the P/J setup, though. With both pickups full it sounds a little bit weird, but it is fine. I bought it mainly for the P tone with the Jazz neck anyways

Different, not necessarily better or worse. It all depends on what you want out of a bass.
I was just noodling on the same bass at GC yesterday. The playability and pleasing tone of this Indonesian instrument made it hard to put down. I almost walked out with it but had to the old "do I really need another bass?" mind funk. A good reminder that you don't need to spend much money to sound good.
Btw, it felt small, is this bass is a standard 34" scale? Also, wondering if the thin neck could handle heavier gauge flats?

Yes! I am the happy owner of a long-scale Squier VM Jaguar bass.
I was all set to swap out the Duncan Designed pups for something more expensive, but after using them, I decided to not fix something that wasn't broken.

There are short-scale versions and long scale versions.

Gassing for one of these pretty hard now, especially after hearing it A/B'ed against the P VM. So much nicer tone compared to that maple board. ungh!
