By the way, which one do you have? Tell me its not the light blue one?

easy.
the width at the nut at at the 12th fret are ony two of the the dimensions of a neck.
front to back thickness at the 1st and 12 fret, the amount of rollover (or none), a C, D, U, V, or soft V shape on the back all can make a neck either feel slim or chunky, not just the width at the nut.
so you have a couple of squier basses and now you're an authority. gimme a break.

i'm just trying to give accurate information, and don't care to be called 'wrong' by someone that has very little experience and hasn't a clue of what they're talking about.
I think SurferJoe was being snotty while also being incorrect, and John was right to be annoyed at that.

The contours are perfect for me when sitting and I don't seem to have any problem. I really love everything else about the bass, it's just the neck plummets as soon as I take my hand off of it. Strange we have the opposite problems--maybe how high/low we wear it? Or yours are magically both more dense at the bridge end.
I didn't get lucky with the tele, it's pretty garage in terms of hardware and feel. Sounds good though.
BTW there is a used one one MF.com for 239.99$ if your reading this and its gone someone bought it , but at the time of writing this its there.

Well I just got one of these squier jags and I can honestly say WOW! I'm definitely favoring this one over my Red Fender jag bass. The p pup is just so full of tone, dial in both tones and the jazz up together with the P and you got youreslf a one growly, punch, and all the flavorful overtones of the roundwound strings. The lows almost sound like the have a natural distortion effect, yet very clear, crisp, and punchy. Got a style you like to play, this one covers almost any type of tone known to flashy bass lines. Slap sounds sweet, tapping is effortless, droning the highs on the g with an open d string is very awesome sounding, some crazy overtones coming out of this thing. As far as hardware goes, it's very good, same tuners that are found on a stock mim fender p an j basses, same bridge as well. Keeps tuning and intonation pretty well so far. Pickups Re surprisingly nicer sounding than a mim fender Std. Pickguard looks pretty and the finish is the same type as the mim fenders. Knobs are good quality, don't see where they can be bad, black lower tone knobs and chrome upper volume knobs, nice contrast. Nicely shielded pickups, so no noise unlike the fender jag version. Neck feels like a thin c/v shape but is very comfy on the grip, not chunky at all. Pearl inlays are nicely done and look very nice as well. Frets are nice and smooth, no sharp edges unlike some mim fenders. Overall it's a winner in my book, well worth the 300$. Would buy another for lower tuning setup. Neck dive is most non existent, sits better than the fender version on a strap. This thing just looks dead sexy in person, any pics you see don't do it justice, you really have to see it in 3D. I really don't know why it's so cheap, it can totally take on a deluxe special fender p bass which is more than double the jag's price.
The only thing I don't like is the lack of binding on the fingerboard. It has the blovk inlays, but I like how the binding mitigates fret sprout and looks good. Don't suppose a luthier can add that?
Quite sure a qualified luthier could do it. It's only $$s anyway!
I was at GC Murrietta for a l-o-n-g time today and got back about a couple of hours ago and I played another VM-Jag that is just like mine. Same situation: NO problems at all, and I took some pixs of it too that I'll load up in a while.
I also played a drop-dead gorgeous Marcus Miller - meh.
The Jag's pickups and electronics are indeed great, and the neck plays very well. Squier is making great basses that give the MIM Fenders a run for their money.

it can be done, but it usually costs more to bind an unbound neck than to buy a whole new one that already has it.
Went to GC with my 15% off coupon in-tow, intending to start working on re-doing my amplification. After a decade plus with Genz, I am GASing for some MarkBass gear. I love what their combo 1x12 and extension cab sound like as a mini-stack.
Progress on the amp will have to wait. I was so taken with the Jaguar, which was perfectly set up, and sounded awesome. This is a perfect "beater gig" bass for me, although my JB2s still see most live action.

I was in GC too today and there was a guy playing a "Bongo' I think - but it's one of the basses with the round-ish PG on it, and I had just gotten down the VM-Jaguar and was gonna try it myself - and he looked and said: "What's that?"
He was on an Ampeg 810 and a huge mega-Watt head and he plugged the Jag in and put the Bongo down and just played the Jag for a solid hour - turning it over, twisting the knobs, checking the price tag, looked at the headstock and decal, and playing it more, and looking at the body, and played it some more.
Then he looked at me and said: "When did this show up? I gotta have it!"

And here's the neck pocket position - notice the dots where they are too!
I suggest that everyone who even considers this VM-Jaguar, to confirm that they have the same physical position for the neck-to-pocket position and the dots there too.

i know every new bass needs a setup, but that's some high action on that one.
i don't understand your point about the dots. every one that i've seen has side dots that are centered on the maple/rosewood lam.
It appears that the side dots are best when they are 50/50 on the binding/neck wood.
Here's my personal example::
........and I find it's correct and like the one I saw today.
This obviously means they were manufactured by (whatever) plant that makes them with the higher-set necks in the body neck pocket.
There have been some complaints of VMs having the necks set too deep into the body and then they are miserable to intonate or set the string height.
There are a few posts on that trouble in another area here that I am frankly, too tired to find right now.
MY VM-Jazz and VM-Jaguar both have the dots at that halfway point, and that's not the same as every else is getting in some stores.
The idea of checking the date and inspector's name on the QC sticker is mine, as I feel there is one plant that is somehow screwing these bodies up and making a different-than-specs neck too.
Just be careful.
PS: I never quibble about setups in any store, as that's easily adjustable once I get the instrument home anyway.

a neck being set shallow, mid or deep in the neck pocket has nothing to do with intonation.
You're prolly right - but that was the claim by others.

Not sure about the dots issue, my VM jazz had dots entirely within the black border, they appeared to be smaller dots as well. That Jazz was more then likely right when the VM line came out, i picked it up used about 2 years ago, and it was AMAZING.
Everything was perfect on it, i had it setup professionally and they never mentioned anything being wrong, frets, neck, pockets nothing. They even complimented it saying it was the nicest squier they have seen!
