Hi guys
I about to pull the trigger on one of these two, I have my number 1 USA P but looking for a faster neck 4 for more swift fingering tunes.
Any first hand experience on the two basses please?

The Squier is a jazz bass. Nothin wrong with it.

The modern player is a jazz bass plus. Dual humbuckers/Neck hb plus single coil bridge/single coil neck plus bridge hb/or both single coils for straight up jazz.

The modern player is crazy versatile, has an awesome finish, and has a musicman style truss adjustment. Winner winner chicken dinner.

.....assuming you're talking about the modern player satin jazz. The non satin isn't coil tappable. It's just two humbuckers.

Vintage Modifieds were satin finish, until recently (I have Mustang, Jazz & Jaguar necks and all are satin)

The newer models were gloss (the VM PJ I have), and the VM Jazz's I've seen recently have also had gloss necks. AFAIK now all VM's are gloss.

If weight's a concern, or you'd like the pure 'usual' Jazz tone, I'd go with the VM.
If you're looking for more tonal variety, the Fender is the one you want.

Both of those basses are great instruments, for the price - I've gigged with VMs, I've gigged with the MP, and I have no complaints about their tone at all. Build quality is good on both, maybe a little better on the MP, and the Fender's neck was amazing. The truss rod wheel was a Godsend too.

In all honesty, I'd probably pick up either over an MIM Standard, if I was buying sight unseen. Just my experience of the ones I've owned. An older used VM Jazz, with the satin neck and Duncan Designed pickups, could be one of the best bargains out there.

Thanks guys, glad they are both well worth the price.
To fill you in a little more.
The bass's I have are a USA P bass and I have a 5 string fan fret active with twin SD humbuckers on order. Type of music is blues, classic and modern rock (nothing mental) The 5 has been designed more with the modern stuff in mind. Sooooo I have £500 store credit... Any more opinions?

I've got a MP Jazz V. Plenty of tone options and the fit and finish was excellent. I'm very satisfied with this instrument. I really like the bridge on the MP over the VM also. The thumbwheel for the truss rod is useful too.
