Squier vs Fender Precision pickguard

The finished result complete with black screws and knobs. The lens distortion makes the body shape a bit weird - it looks nicer IRL. Thanks everyone for your input.

Loving the Fender Custom 62 pickup though it has less heft than the stock pickup. It sounds more balanced tone-wise. @dougjwray having another P-bass I think you're wise to keep the stock pickup in your Sonic.

Apologies to those who hate to see a bass lying on the floor. In 40+ years I've never had a problem caused by occasionally doing that for a photo.

@iqi616 ,

I installed a prewired DiMarzio pickguard, designed for USA Fender P basses, and it fit my Squier Sonic P perfectly! So, at least for the *Sonic* model, any old "standard" pickguard will work. I was expecting some work, but it was an easy switch. The Sonic Bronco does require a specifically sized pickguard, but the P bass is standard. :)

Edit: Sorry, my statement came too late! Glad it worked perfectly for your needs. :bassist:

I dabble in a lot of Squier basses. The various import Amazon pickguards and even Fender ones especially built for the Squier are hit and miss. Mostly are screw placement. Sometimes the neck hole is too small and needs slight sanding/Dremel, and more rare is the pickup hole is a tad too small. Since I like to relic my basses, I cut, sand, age and make a few extra holes here and there on pickguards often....no biggie!
