Squiers!

I remember you mentioning that you fell in love with Squier during the Ima Robot record. Did you mod it at all?

I've got a Squier P that keeps beating out my other "more legitimate" basses (62 Reissue P, orig 76 Jazz) in the studio. Even though the top end sounds kinda plasticky, the lows/low mids seem to sit so well in the track.

Think it's worth trying out other pickups/bridge/etc to try and sweeten/smooth out the high end? Or just let it be what it is?I'm a bit worried about not being able to get it back to where it is now sonically.

Also, do you still have/dig that Squier from the IR sessions? What was it exactly?

That first IR record is still a benchmark of tone for me. So many great sounds on there!

No, that was a stock Mexi-P, rosewood, white on cream. Smoked. It wasn't mine. That was the 2nd IMAR record,btw. Used it for a couple of songs here and there. The first IMAR record (read: the only good one) was my proper instruments and gear.

Stock mexi-Jazz also used years ago on the Medicine album "Her Highness". Very big sound.

I wouldn't change it! Just leave it! It's gonna get f*&(ed up if you put other pickups or hardware on there, just my 2 cents.

Thanks so much for the advice and setting the record straight your gear! Glad that you reinforced keeping mine stock, I feel good about that.

I had a stock mexi-Jazz for a while back in the day but I ended up selling it cause it was a bit noisy and a hideous color. Could use another hifi-ish jazz, my 76 is a bit thumpy and I've got flats on it too. Was thinking maybe geddy but my jazz is almost that same look. Maybe just an MIA. Or a jag!
