This debate will never end and right now I think it's 50.15% in favor of Squier and 49.85% in favor of MIM. Flip a coin. IMO: I like the new line of Squiers I do believe they're superior over most MIM. I don't think the MIM are worth the extra bucks for a different decal on the headstock. I also believe the CV line up is slightly better than the VM.

My go to basses are a Fender MIA P and a Gibson Thunderbird IV, but I have a Squier CV J when I need something different. Since I don't use a J that much I thought the Squier product fit the bill perfectly. At $300 new and $225-250 used how can you go wrong. And I haven't modified a thing - great right out of the box.

Im looking to buy a new p bass to string up with flats. I like both of these but to my ears the MIM had sounded the slightest bit better. But with the extra cash buying the CV i could buy better pickups and maybe pump some cash for a new bridge? What do you think is the best option?

Whatever plays best and is affordable. Include Korean and Japanese Squiers in your list. Try to play them all--your body will know which one is the choice.
