SR500 with which strings?

Looking for some suggestions on strings since i am on a budget. Currently have dr high beams, but have been recently considering others....i like roundwounds, just dont like the feel of flats...i play progressive rock/funk/alternative/experimental

I utilize various techniques...finger pick, pick, slap, finger tap

Ive heard a lot of praise for the dr sunbeams....

And im not a daddario fan or ghs fan for that matter

I like elixers on the SR basses. I have found that you have to be careful with Ibanez. Lots of string buzz from the bridge if you change from the exliers. I don't know why. But that was the same for my BTB, SR 370, SR 505 and my ATK. The ATK being the only one I have now. I put black beauties on it and ripped them off the same day. Could not get rid of the buzz no matter how I set it up. AGGH!

Buzz from the bridge? Probably the typical crap bridge screws Ibanez seems to put on their SR's. String vibrations make the screws move, so the saddle moves up or down, causing the buzzing.

Ken Smith strings are excellent and very reasonably priced. There are lots of different versions to choose from so you'll need to decide whether you want steel or nickel, standard or taper core, hex or round core, roundwound, groundwound, or flatwound, etc. I have had great experience with their steel strings and I was an avid Fat Beams player until I tried them.

Also, I recently tried Fodera's nickel strings and they sound absolutely fantastic.

sunbeams are going to be very lacking in treble compared to the hibeams imo. If you want real warm tone and less treble content they might work well though. Neons have more treble content then sunbeams and sound better balanced tone wise to me. Not as bright as hibeams though. Unless theres something about your sound your wanting to change, Id day stick with the hibeams.

I was recommended the neons..just don't like the color much..do they make em in black? Lol. Im liking the hi beams, they were too bright at first but they've tamed pretty quickly. I like the DRs as opposed to the rotosounds...they feel better on my hands...just gotta get used to them, and my new bass all at the same time. 3 gigs in 3 days coming up!

Yes they do, Black Beauties. Make sure the package says "K3 coating". I just put a set on my SR900. Love the sound and the feel.

I originally bought them for my SR700, but the E string was too long for it, so I installed them through body on my SR900. My 700 has always had DR Black Beauties, I just wanted to try the new coating, so I don't know why the longer strings this time. The box doesn't say anything different other than the new K3 coating logo.

It's OK though, I put the new Chromes on the 700 instead. Now, I think I like the sound of each bass better after the unintended string switch. Go figure. :-)
