After playing a SR705 today for the umpteenth time, I have decided that a GWB35 would be better for me because I want a fretless that can that can take rounds, and I want space to slap. Remember the ramp on the GWB35 is removeable if need be.
Having owned both, I'll say that the Portamento has a MUCH more versatile sound. The GWB35 has one tonal range, which it does very well, but that's it.
I think the real answer for me is neither. If I get a nice fretless five, it needs an ebony fingerboard like the G&L L-1505 I had for a while. I would string it with half rounds for slap when I wasn't it. I like hardness and brightness of ebony.
