St. Patrick's Day gig... Which songs?

1. Spirit Of The West - Home For A Rest
2. Black Velvet Band - Traditional (if no one is dancing go into Dropkick Murphys version after first verse but if people waltz at beginning keep it slow).
3. The Night Paddy Murphy Died - Johnny Burke

No shame in having the lyrics on a stand for these since it is an occasion.

....speaking as a bassist in a Celtic band in the past this is my opinion. :)

Did this once myself. The song that brought the house down (which was a TOTAL surprise to us) was "The Donnegal Express" a la Shane McGowan and the Popes.

This is NOT the Pogues, this album came out just after he got booted by the Pogues for wanton debauchery.

Check it out and play it (as long as the gig will tolerate some coarse language!)

Don't forget the warning labels!

(My old band used to print up stickers every St Patrick's day and distribute them to the audience.)

I play in an Irish band and were getting pretty busy for obvious reasons.
My favorite right now is "what's left of the flag" from Flogging Molly. Not sure why its that one over all the others, but it is. :)
"What's Left of the Flag" is my favorite Flogging Molly song, too.
It's got the the full range of Irish expression all rolled up into one kicking-ass tune!
