Had a busy weekend-finally!
First up, a (possible) one-off at a Texas Roadhouse/Saloon waaaaaay back in the hinterlands of the SoTex Hill Country. Headwaters in Harper, TX. My first time there, and the first time playing with this particular band. (Though I work with the guitarists all the time, the drummer was new and we were using a horn player I'd never met, so...)
Three of us carpooled in my "Texas Caddie" pulling my PA trailer. I managed to snag a spot right next to the loading ramp which put us right at stage left. Very cool load in.
Here's a shot of Dave, the duty saxophonist, you can see that ramp at the bottom of the photo.

Not a bad stage for the five of us. Drummer Steve was all set up and ready to go when we got there. He might just be a "keeper"!
It never fails to amuse me how creative these venues can be. Witness this "sink"!

And lastly, here's a shot of the venue from the bar.

Saturday I was at one of my local roadhouses with the same guitar players for a St. Patrick's Day Jam. The weather was great-our two weeks of spring have arrived. Time to to check on the A/C units I guess-it won't be long before 100+ days arrive. We set up in the backyard for four hours of fun.
Here's the backyard view from the stage area. It takes a lot of ice to keep the beer cold!
And another shot from the back door.
I've gotta admit. The guitar player who runs this show was with us in Harper Friday night, and we didn't get to his place until 3:00 AM Saturday morning. He had this show set up outside and ready to go, sound-checked and all, by 2:00 PM Saturday. We had a great time, pretty good crowd and I made a little cash to boot. Not too bad for a Saturday afternoon I guess.
(Sunday afternoon we had a wake here for a local bass player. It was a sad affair, but I was invited to play and we managed to give him a good send off. With a cannon actually. South Texas never ceases to amaze...)
