Stack knob, Jazz neck Hoppus - me likeee

I always wanted a Jazz bass with a P pickup. Thought about modding something else, but the Hoppus body appealed to me for the string through bridge and no bridge pickup. Finally broke down and bought one of these basses. Then I took my favorite Fender Jazz neck and swapped it for the original P neck. Finally, I added a stack knob control to give me volume and tone without adding holes or hardware. Just finished it about an hour ago, but so far I really like the finished product.

Thanks guys, I think I'm really going to like this one. I actually like the pearl guard. If i really get attached to the bass I can see a blocks and binding neck on it. that would really work with the pearl.

I really like what you did there, great idea with the stacked knob... the lack of tone always drove me away from that. Since you were looking for a Jazz with a P did you consider the Reggie Hamilton as well? I picked one up on the 'bay for a SONG and it's honestly becoming my #1 player. It's already seen 2 gigs, and I LOVE it!

I have a P/J bass. I really like it, and it has been my main bass for the last year. I wanted a pure passive P. I don't think the P/J combo quite gets that sound, even when the J is turned down. The interaction of the electronics seems to affect it. There is also a slight amount of hum introduced whenever I dial in a bit of J to change the tone. It's not serious, can't be detected when playing, but it can be annoying between songs. I seriously considered disconnecting the J pickup on the P/J with a switch to see if that would alter the tone, but I decided it was a great excuse for another bass. Now I'll see if that was a good idea.

That is way cool! Great modifications. I'm tempted to get one and do the same thing. I wish they made that bass in sunburst..

I had the exact same thought, but when I got my beat to hell Hoppus of E-Bay, I discovered I really didn't mind the P neck that much at all. I have been considering defretting, and if that goes badly, I'll probably go to the J neck if necessary.

Are you playing flats on it?? I really like the 1/4 pounder with flats a lot!!

Currently using DR Flats on it. I keep FatBeams on the P/J and that is my current P Bass arsenal. I also keep flats on my L2000, but find it responds better to Chromes.

I would love to have one of those basses in the shell pink they used to sell. I've never played one though
