Stage Apparel - What's On Your "No" List?

Black/dark coloured dress shirt.
Nice Jeans (No holes, etc...)
Nice shoe's or chuck taylors,
black hat.

This is what I wear on stage. The only time I look different is if I do a wedding or fancier casino gig, then it's a black suit with a white dress shirt/black tie.

My band leader(s), will not tolerate anyone dressing unprofessionally and I wholeheartedly agree with them nowadays....

One last note: why in the world would anyone think that sweat pants on stage is acceptable??!!!! I saw it at a gig the other day....

I was stymied by the guy that looked like he just stepped off of a bulldozer to play a gig. He wore a dirty CAT ball cap, and mud/cement crusted carhart bibs. Yes, they were a country band, but still.......

I have no problems with gigging in shorts, but only if they are a nice looking pair of denim ones. I usually wear jeans and a black tshirt, sometimes a band one, but i have worn a few more strange tshirts too, and the occasional black short sleeved shirt. My whole band tend to wear nice jeans and tshirts, it works for us.

I'm a recent convert to the "no shorts" club. I normally wouldn't anyway except for outdoor summer gigs, but it does look pretty terrible, especially when you have chicken legs like mine. When it comes to pants, most of the time I'll wear jeans, but only if they're dark, dark blue or black, and definitely not baggy.

I'm also trying to get away from the t-shirt look, but I think layered t-shirts, like a short sleeve over a long sleeve can look good. I'm always on the lookout for shirts that will work on stage. Most of the time I find western-style shirts work the best. I avoid logos like the plague, especially the Affliction/Tapout/etc. douchewear. I'll rock a band shirt on stage, but never one with my own band's name on it. That's the granddaddy douche move of them all, wearing your own band's shirt on stage, especially if you're a cover band (and, yes, I know I'll get flamed for that one, but I'm sticking to it.)

And if you're wondering WHY I don't like matching/themed costumes, imagine a band of 5 teenagers wearing something like this in the late 60s:

I believe in being whoever you are, but it just doesn't seem to work out like that. Just me, though, would be jeans (regular or black), sometimes a t-shirt, or golf shirt, sometimes a dress shirt (without button down collar), or one of those 'shop" shirts that you wear outside your pants. Shoes can be black tennies (never white), dress shoes, or sometimes my black western boots. NO Hawaiian shirts for me, but I have to do it sometimes. I'm used to wearing a tux for weddings and other up-scale gigs (like for the govenor, three times). I don't believe in dressing alike, but have to do it as necessary. Right now two bands like to do slacks and golf shirts.

Shorts? Not for me, except a couple of times.

If the gig pays well there's nothing I wouldn't wear on stage. If it's my own band... hmmm.... I've worn and not worn lots, and I'd never want to say never - but I don't like any sport team apparel, and I'm not fond of big silly hats. I also look ridiculous in tights, and i think dresses on guys are cliche and played out.
