I will wear whatever the band wants me to wear. If I'm given my own choice, I'll decide based on the gig, but usually slacks, button down shirt. If it's a very casual gig, I'll wear nice black jeans and a more casual button down shirt.

i hate the way i look onstage in shorts. i understand the theory that you should look a bit better than the audience, but it depends what type of band you're in. i wouldn't mind doing some shows a bit dressier, button down dark shirts and ties, if the whole band matched. but our scene is fine to be in a nice t-shirt and dark pants or jeans.

i don't play grindcore post sludge crabby death flop metal, so can't really pull off cargo shorts.

Haha, yeah, that's a good way to put it.

I have a few really ridiculous things just for the stage that I'd never wear "in the real world", like a suit splattered all over with bleach and wood stain or a shirt with antelopes printed all over it and the sleeves cut off.

I wouldn't wear shorts or flip-flops, I guess, but I just don't own any of those, period. I also probably won't wear plain cheap-looking T-shirts or sweatpants, but other than that not much is off-limits.

This is what I DO wear. If it's not mentioned, I wont wear it while I play.

Bars - Solid color t-shirt / v-neck
-or-
Some kind of plaid button down
Dark jeans
Converse

Weddings - Black Suit
White or Black shirt, depending on request.

That is all.

i was beginning to think i was the only one..

and definitely not those skinny, tight, creepy jeans that seem to be the rage these days. If we can see the change in your pocket, you should use it to call a tailor and get your pants fixed.

If you're thinking about what you're wearing, you're probably doing it more or less right. If I'm playing for someone else I'll usually try to dress more or less like them.

We have a "rule" at church to try and wear bright colours. We're a jeans and t-shirt kind of church, but there's nothing worse on a bright stage to have everyone dressed in black. It looks much better to have some colour up there.

Our jazz bands dress code is black and purple, all the guys wear black suits, black shirts and purple ties, although on one occasion we did a posh gig and we wore all black with red bow ties. I tend to wear a black hat on stage too. :smug:
As far as our rock band go we wear what we like, tends to be jeans and t-shirt/ casual shirt.
