Stage Etiquette (Leaving Tuner On)?

The thing has a clip, right? You can clip it anywhere within arm's reach, right?

I'm just messing around, anyway. It's just a pet peeve of mine. It's like attaching a pencil sharpener to a pencil, because, ya know... they get dull.

The thing is slightly bigger than the battery, about the size of a quarter. The only bit visible on the front of the headstock is a tiny clip.

I just got a pair and they are sweet. AND BASSSTRINGSONLINE.COM ROCKS!

Your rack tuner just stays on all the time.

When I finally bought a used Korg rack tuner, I figured I'd arrived. That cool zippy light, or the rolling strobe, and the large display I could read from ten feet away. It's so 1980's! But for silent tuning, I had to go back and mute the amp, which didn't mute the FOH from the DI.

Now the four space rack with the GK and tuner has shrunk to a Genz Benz streamliner in a bag, and the headstock tuner solves the silent tuning problem.

I leave my Korg rackmount tuner on the strobe setting all the time. It adds a little light effect to my rack. Whenever I leave it on I get compliments on it but if it's off, no one ever notices!

So long as your tuner isn't that stupid wart that lives on the headstocks of guitars everywhere. When I see players who leave their tuners on their instruments I just wanna take said instrument and smash stuff....

The sight of these things doesn't quite move me to violence but I hate seeing them. It looks bush league to me I guess is one reason.

Another thing is when I see one clipped to a headstock I want to point it out and say " Hey you forgot something there". Kind of like when your buddy wanders out of the men's room with his gear hanging out.

When you're done with business put the gear away. I know you're proud of it but I don't want to be looking at that junk

I have the TC electronics polytune pedal, and I use it as frequently as possible to tune during gigs. It's a must in SW Florida as the combination of high humidity and blasting air conditioning does a number in wood

If it's the type with the row of lights that goes back and forth, back and forth, yeah, turn it off. I may be in the minority but I find it EXTREMELY irritating.

One of the best reasons to have a rack tuner, IMO, is so you can glance backward and adjust tuning mid-song. That only works if you leave it on.

I didn't forget it - it's there deliberately. It's so I can... well... tune. Can't say anyone's noticed - it's so small as to be almost invisible from the front.

My tuner, that is.

If you have a tuner input on your amp it will work. I use the Markbass Littlemark II which has the tuner out. I prefer to use it in line with my bass for the mute.

Yeah mine is in line but would love it to always be on without muting. With my old tuner I would tune with it sending a signal with effects behind it for ambiance

I use the unfortunately now discontinued Sabine RT 71000. Great features. Mute button. Smart outputs. Footpedal with A/B and Mute. Senses which a/b input and A/B output is there. Will switch between 2 basses plugged in or output to 2 devices (amp in my case). You can select non-strobing operation. Muting defeats any input into amp.

So the signal chain was Bass>Sabine rack>SWR SM900. Using it this way the DI output is not an issue.

FYI the 7000 version is not as good, the jacks are plastic. Avoid that one used.

I have suffered so long in my life from slightly out of tune guitarists that I went and bought Snarks for the worst offenders and made them use them, so I'm not going to complain about one on the guy's headstock. I'd rather he had it handy and used it. The sonic calamity is worse than the visual anomaly. Most people wouldn't notice anyway.

To the OP, I leave it on, and mute it when used. I check it regularly between songs. I really don't like to play without it though my current's bass's neck is rock solid. Winter temps in the car into a warm room do require it. Summer humidity here in NE requires it as well.

Yep. Still irritating. I learned to tune by ear instead.

Not the easiest thing to see all the time. The swivel heads on the mini ones are a great idea.

I don't think they look that bad, either. I do clip mine so I can see the screen behind the headstock and only the clip part is on the front, though.

what exactly is going on with your basses? i sometimes go days without even touching my bass and it's still in tune. i check the tuning, rarely have to adjust anything, and it's in tune all night. do i have the coolest bass ever? am i using the world's most incredible bass strings? i was joking with the guitarist just a couple weeks ago about how i think i wasted money on my tuner. really, except for adjusting to learn from a recording that's a half-step up or down from where it's tuned, i can't remember the last time i had to "tune up". i get a little trouble the first day i change strings, but never have issues otherwise. actually, i stepped outside for a smoke during the rehearsal that night and he went over and fubarred the tuning just so i could use my tuner
