Stage-left or stage-right? What is your preference?

Stage Right ... so I can see what chord the guitar player is playing ...

...stand on the right of the guitarist (that way I can see what he's playing...

This, if I don't know the material. If I know the material, my only preference is that I don't stand behind a seated player, such as keyboard or pedal steel. Seated players should always be on the side or in back, unless that player is the star of the show. You know, I'd stand behind Elton John all night long.

i dont have a preferance, but i cant remember ever being on stage right. its always left for me, but for the last year ive been gigging regularly with a lefty on drums.. so it must not be the hihat.

I dont always get a say in the matter (two guitarists in my band), but I go stage right whenever I can. The hi-hat never does anything for me, but the kick drum does. Maybe thats just my metal side talking.

I`ve always been mid/right. Every band I`ve been in has had two guitarists so they were always on the sides while the drummer and I were in the middle.

Been wanting to give the left side a test run for a while though

Whilst I prefer 'Stage Left', sound guys often have a DI setup ready to go on a certain side of the stage which i'm more than happy to conform with. The way is see it, if you don't upset the sound guy, you are less likely to get a ****** mix.

I tend to play on stage left. When you play in an orchestra that's where they stick the basses, so I just go there out of habit.

Left - I can reach over and grab my coctail easier with my left hand for some reason. I don't see the big deal about hearing the drummers - I can hear them in the parking lot.

Come to think of it I believe I've always played stage left. Never thought of it before but when ever I start setting up my rig there I am. The last band I played in we had a lefty for a drummer and even then I was stage left.

I prefer the drummer to my left. I've already lost a lot of high frequency hearing in that ear because of loud-a** drummers, I'm not going to ruin my right ear as well.

I'm lefty, so I stand on stage right so that me and the guitard's necks are not pointing at each other. They tend to knock together if they do and we're not careful. And who wants to be careful of that sort of thing instead of rocking out? PLus visually it is better. Being a lefty sucks.

It depends on the drummer.
If drummer is happening, any side, does not matter.
If I've never played with drummer.
I prefer hi hat side. (left)

I'm not bothered, as long as I get to wander round. And if it's a heavy song, i'll be on Stage-Right, so I can nut some crash cymbals =]
