Stage-left or stage-right? What is your preference?

I prefer stage right. My feeling (being a former drummer) is that the hi-hat doesn't define the pocket...the bass drum and snare do, so I stand away from the hi-hat.

It also helps that the drummer I play with the most has nice ride cymbal "feel" and uses it quite a bit so he's facing more towards the front than to the left.

Stage left. Better for eye contact with the drummer, plus he's turned toward my amp and can hear it better. (That's my theory, anyway.)
Recently, though, I've been gigging regularly in a place with a narrow stage; my amp sits to the drummer's left, but there's no place for me to stand over there. So I stand at center stage.

Used to be whatever but we've sort of locked into setting up this way. No particular reason, although we both agree that drums being centered would look stupid in our bands case.

on the left side of the stage(from the audiences point of view) because i never bring my own amp, all the places i play at usually have their own backline and the bass amp is always on the left side of the stage. come to think of it i have never played on the right side of the stage, i got a gig on Saturday and i think i will try it.

ive always been on the left- but only because the guitarists ive played with always chose right. im not 100% on this- but i think i could probably play as well regardless of the side im on. also- the kick is in the middle- or both sides for those with two- so i cant see that making a huge difference- could be wrong though.

My solution: go wireless & hang out wherever you feel like.

Sometimes I interact with the lead guitarist, sometimes with our 2nd guitartist/keyboardist. Other times I hang in the background while they do their double leads. Depends on the situation...and the song. But being wireless gives me that flexibility.

My amp is behind the drummer's shoulder...either right or left, depending on room on the stage (we have a lot of equipment) No matter where I am on stage, I can hear me.
