I am about to order a stagg edb electric upright, but can't seem to find anywhere what strings come on it. Anyone know? Additionally, any recommendations out there for me if I want to change them? (Jazz player). Thanks!

Double Bass Stagg EDB strings

They come with Stagg strings that you can order separately, but better take a bit more money and buy something better.
Maybe buy some well used Spiros from the classifieds. Not that much more money and definitely better. If you want less sustain (the solid body makes the sustain longer than on an acoustic upright), maybe an orchestral (damped) string.

Round wound is pretty rare in the DB world.
The Syagg strings are flat wound as most DB strings, but I get black fingers when playing them. So I changed to something else (Prest Balance Hybrid Medium for one and currently but unhappy with Corelli 380M on the other).
Spiro Weich or Mittel 4/4 or Helicore Orchestra Light might work or Innovation Braided or Polychromes (other synthetic core strings might stretch too much and there might not be enough room on the peg for the elongated string).
Dear DoubleMIDI I realized that you have quite big experience with different makes of strings on Stagg edb. As other people here I'm also looking to find better strings for my Stagg, especially I would like to obtain more organic, woody, sound, I mean sound that is more textured than the stock strings have. I don't look for higher tones but for more complex tone .
Could You please share your results of your tests with different brands of strings on stagg i.e what kind of sound You've got from them.
I don't know if there is separate specific thread on selection of strings used only on Stagg edb to gather other people's experiences in this area. If not it would be nice to make one.
I'm very curious about your opinion on every kind of strings you tested and how they relate to stock strings.

Not so much experienced with strings on a Stagg as you might think and a bit more exotic strings, since I live in Germany.
I don't find the stock strings that bad, but I get black fingers from them.
I had the following sets on my Stagg(s):
Stock strings
Presto Balance Hybrid Medium (a is a bit higher tension, replaced with a PBH Light)
Presto Jazzicato (replaced the A string with a Prsto Jazzicato Tungsten because of the high tension)
Corelli 380M (don't like the perceived higher tension on the higher strings)
Anyway the bridge is bad on a Stagg because of equal action height for all four strings. Need to file down the higher side or replace the bridge completely (haven't done that yet, but a new bridge is planned, years ago ...).
The underlength of the Stagg (I damped it with a sponge) is quite large, so you need a long string, either a 4/4 or a long 3/4.
I think Spirocore 4/4 Medium or Soft should work. 3/4 Medium might have too much tension.
The recommendation for solid body EUBs are often either synthetic core strings (Obligato) or damped steel core strings like used for bowing (because there is more feedback into the string at the bridge as with a moving top).
Jargars might work if you want the note a lot shorter.
I liked the Presto Balance Hybrid, but I got them used and have been rather dead. The new light A was not bad, so a new set should work. But these are European strings (polish, but available from Jonas Lohse in Germany).
The Corelli 370F might have a better tension distribution than their other sets. This set is popular with a lot of DB players.
The Jazzicato are a bit too dark and plastic sounding for my taste. Maybe I dislike the pizz feel a bit too. Not my set but playable.
Since I got a 5-string Clevinger Key hole type EUB, I only play the Stagg if the others are not available like on vacation or if I would like to practice a bit on a four string without the high C, so I don't care too much about the strings on the Stagg now. That might change if I make a new bridge someday.

What do You thing about Thomastik Superflexibles on eub like Stagg ??
I never used the 370F myself, but tension data showed me that I would like the tension distribution a lot more than the 380Ms.

Superflexibles might work too, but get the 4/4 version (model number starting with S), not the 3/4 (no letters in the model number).

Mmm, if I'm not mistaken:
The 4/4 SF set is #42, and the 3/4 SF set is #2887,0.
The Spirocore 4/4 set is #S42, and the 3/4 Spiro set is #3885,0.
