I did stand-up comedy for a few years back in the late 80's-early 90's when the comedy club boom was happening. I enjoyed some moderate local success, but never really "got it". Went back to bass playing and never looked back. I still get the occasional idea for a comedy routine. Here's the latest: Keith Richards trying to have a conversation with Ozzy Osborn. As is gets worse and worse, it's decided a translator would help. In steps Bob Dylan... (note: to make this work, you would need to do impressions of all the above)
I've never been a fan of stand-up, but I can appreciate the bravery of it. Your idea reminds me of a scene from Jim Jarmusch's "Coffee and Cigarettes", where Tom Waits and Iggy Pop meet up for a chat...
Grainy vhs footage of you in parachute pants and/or a blazer with rolled up sleeves or it never happened.
I actually did have a vhs tape of some of my material. My wonderful children decided that tape would be good for recording one of their shows on. My fault for not breaking that little tab on the back I guess. My greatest night ever was opening for this guy - Big Daddy Graham. I had a Casio digital guitar I used in my act and some musical "humor". After 3 years I still hadn't figured out why my stuff killed one night and bombed the next, so I went back to bass playing. Since then I've seen that a lot of the good comedians have a preliminary 5 minutes or so of material that allows them to tailor the rest of their set to the crowd.
