Stanley Clarke Playing Sadowsky

I'm guessing this has nothing to do with Roger and everything to do with Hans-Peter.

He was actually visiting the NYC Custom Shop while in NYC a while ago and took a liking to this particular bass.

I’ve been trying to figure out what kind of guitar strap he’s using here for a week now!

First.......I am not affiliated with the following shop........I've bought (6) straps from this shop when I switched to wider straps.....great customer service.

Well, Stanley has played a lot of different basses. I saw him once playing A Gibson EB-2 through an Acoustic 371. Terrible sound, great playing.
He's owned a lot- after all, he can buy or get an endorsement deal with anyone. Whatever he plays, he's still Stanley Clarke!

I don't know about the other manufacturers you mention but Susan Wickersham told me back in the late 80s Alembic does not do endorsement deals for anyone. That came up in the context of talking about Phil Lesh. Stanley paid for all of his Alembic basses and gear. They have taken extremely good care of his needs for years including rush building a smaller version of his Alembic preamp that he could put in a carry-on bag when flying to gigs without his main rig.

Many famous bassists are associated with one bass- McCartney with the Hofner- AND later The Rickenbacker- but Sir Paul has been seen with Yamaha, Fender, and even a Wal, I think. I saw Chris Squire playing an Electra, and a silver Lakland Bob Glaub P-bass. Still Chris. I'd like to hear Stanley play the Sadowsky.

I saw a picture where he was playing a Rickenbacker, on the back cover of WHIKYB he had a Jazz Bass in the background.

There is a video of Stanley Clarke playing a Ric 4000, like I used to have, with Return to Forever, that I have not been able to find again on YouTube.

Speaking about his size I met him once when he was playing with Al De Meola and Jean Luc- Ponty, was that a show yikes, got all of their autographs and when I shook his hand my hand disappeared into his, it totally engulfed mine and I don’t have small hands, he’s a lot bigger in person then in pictures or videos,I will say though Jean Luc-Ponty stole the show that night

What’s your point? Four string Sadowsky’s are very common and Clarke does not play fives.

Except when he does. He's got a short scale Alembic 5-string.

How long has he been playing it? For the longest he avoided playing fives because it affected his muscle memory, and for someone with as much speed as Stanley Clarke, I can see where that would be an issue.

I got a screenshot of Stanley Clarke playing a Sadowsky Metroline from Facebook. Warwick/Sadowsky released a statement that Clarke is playing Sadowsky Metroline. We’ll see how this goes. I’m old enough to remember him endorsing Gibson and his own Spellbinder basses.

This is Sadowsky Modern he is playing. He almost makes it look like a short scale.

Yep. That’s what he is playing I this picture. I’m sure it’s a fine version of a Sadowski. Heck, I could care less what he is playing , I’m glad he’s still out there playing. What a talent!!
