I watched Episode 2. I'm acclimating to the visuals. And yes they love closeups of Burnham's face. ;)

I'm kind of liking it. I may have to disavow my previous harsh comments about the show. I'd only watched the premiere when it came out and I kind of hated it then.

The choice of pilot episodes was terrible. it should have started with the third episode. You can't have brand new Star Trek starting with a giant space battle if you don't know or care about any of the characters.

My hopes for a good TNG reprise have been dashed. I've lost all interest in Picard, and most respect for Patrick Stewart. I'm not at all inclined to hear yet another Hollywood millionaire lecture us on his personal politics , and then mangle what once was a great character in the process.

If the show fails, this will be why. People have had enough.

This is my impression after reading up on the Burnham character. Maybe the first two episodes would have worked better as flashbacks later in the series. TBD for me.

You should go to the mirror universe and tell Gene Roddenberry to keep his ideas and opinions to himself.

I too prefer standalone episodic shows. That's what killed Star Trek 'Enterprise' with the whole Dominion thing and that God awful Diane Warren song at the beginning of the show rather than the usual orchestral pieces. The queen of cliche' song writing has killed more careers than a I can count. As well as shows.
And no, I will not donate $10 to watch one long story line.

The Dominion was DS9. You meant the Xindi.

I'm physically incapable of not correcting Star Trek mistakes. Sorry.

After having watched Season 1 and part of Season 2 of Discovery I think I've found what I don't like about it. It's not the acting, it's not the storyline, it's the technology. This is supposed to be happening in the years before Captain Kirk arrives on the scene, and the tech looks way too advanced for its time. The tech in Star Trek TOS has a certain look, derived from the mid to late 60s TV technology. Push buttons, mechanical sliders, TV screens, and so on. By contrast Discovery's tech looks out of place in the 23rd Century. It looks more like it should be far in advance of Picard's time, maybe in the 25th or 26th Century. I think Star Trek Enterprise looked more realistic, being 80 years before Kirk. I'll keep watching Discovery, but the unrealistic tech bugs me.

I got over that pretty quickly. Our current understanding of technology has advanced a ton since TOS. Why would we still be using manual toggles and analog devices that far in the future? It keeps it more in line with current reality -- I think a much more analog approach would feel a bit disjointed and demand too much suspension of disbelief.

Shockingly, I also can't get over the technology. If they were gonna do a show in the original series era than they couldn't have done it with switches and toggles and blinking lights. That would've been ridiculous. But they never should've done it in that era. They showed the Enterprise in TNG for Scottie. They showed it in DS9, toggles and miniskirts and all. It didn't need to be ten years before Kirk but they did it anyway. The show runners don't respect Star Trek.

I watched epi1 and2. I will continue. It drew me in a little more than Picard did. I too, am somewhat bothered by the continuing Klingon facelifts throughout all the various ST series, the advanced tech of the "prequel" but I also get how we have to sort of fit it into our modern times and tech. As you get immersed into the story lines, it bothers me less and less.

Just finished S2 E7. I really like how they're blending new adventures with TOS canon. Time to take a break from DSC and revisit The Cage/The Menagerie...

Holy **** those TOS sets were crude! I love it!

I'm just too easily entertained sometimes. ;)

I officially retract all the negative things I said about DSC after only watching the first episode.
