While the Dano is a cool little bass I think you are going to find yourself limited on it. There are different lines of Squires with different price points and quality. Both the Classic Vibe and Vintage Modified have gotten great reviews, if you can find a used one either would be a great choice. I had a vintage modified P bass (like the vintage 70's Telecaster bass with the big humbucker) and it was way better quality than my real '70s Fender Tele bass.

A cheap pbass would be best. It's the standard. Get to know it first.

How does this one look? Or should I definitely go for the Jazz in preference to the P Bass?
