Stellartone---Best passive mod ever!

Longer term feedback is still about the same as it was the first week I got it. I'm still digging it. I still love being able to cut treble without cutting mids, and a couple positions have emerged as my favorites with two clicks down from wide open being the usual position I use.

The only real complaint I have is that through my amps, I like it wide open. Even though my cabs won't produce anything over 5k, the extra treble response sounds good coming through the cab. But I use two clicks down from wide open most of the time because it sounds more like a tweeterless cab in the PA through the REDDI. Makes the sound out of my cab less snappy, and I like the snappy out of my cabs but not so much out of the PA so I go with it.

Don also recommended I use the 30k resistor should I decide to remove the stacked knob with the "normal" tone control, and the stacked knob already has it, so I guess I don't get the mid peakiness BF is talking about. The potential is there, though I've been quite happy with the sound of it.

Sorry it isn't working out for some of you, but I'm still into it.

i see comments about the usual Tone Control messing with your Mid freqs ..??

wouldn't that depend on the Cap ..??? if the Cap is one that is just for higher freqs , it shouldn't affect the mids .??

i've had a few Varitones on different guitars/basses ... they are kinda interesting ... but like most folks say , they find a couple setting s that work for them the vast majority of the time ..!?!? so why not install that ONE majic cap that does that for you ..??

i'm going passive on my other bass ... V/T/V/T ... i was thinking of using 2 different cap values ... a darker one for the neck , high cutoff point for the bridge ..??!

it just seems like a lot of bucks for something 98% of the population will never notice ..! ha ... you could same that about lots of our music gear ..!!

and ... does the value of the Tone pot affect the slope of the cap ..???

I can't give a technical explanation for why it work but it does work. You really need to try one before you judge.

I was initially skeptical but after just a couple of minutes checking one out on a friend's bass it was obvious this thing delivers. As for the price I know he has custom caps made that are small enough to make the device fit without any extra routing. You could make one yourself with stock caps and a pot for about $60 plus however many hours to design and build it. But you'd end up with something that was probably 5-6 times the size of a Stellartone and wouldn't fit in you bass. All in all the Stellartone seems priced pretty fairly for what it does and the killer customer service that seems evident so far.

I never do ANYTHING based on those who can't hear what I'm doing. LCD's ain't in my vocabulary ;) And while I COULD install one magic cap, that would mean I'd be married to one sound. Meanwhile, for a hundy, I get 10 of them and I like a good 5 or 6 of the settings.

This posting peaked my interest to mod my Franken p-bass. Did more research, listened to you tube videos, emailed Don at Stellartone and made the purchase today for a full wired harness with a Tonestyler ten with non-standard caps and concentric pot with a volume and tone control so the tonestyler is a cap selector and the tone control can be used to further shape the tone. Looking forward to getting it, installing it and experimenting next week. It seems as though, this would be the ultimate in passive tone options for a p-bass without pedals. We'll see.

Hey frand,

Can you just take it out of your cavity and throw it in a box in front of your REDDI? Or is the REDDI in the signal chain before your amp?

I haven't posted this in the REDDI thread... but I think I have a somewhat unconventional way to use the REDDI as a preamp... :ninja: I don't have a REDDI yet (need to sell some stuff first), but I'll try it when I get one.

Depends on what you're putting it into. If its a single pickup like a "P" then use either the Bass 6 or Bass 10. This also works for dual pickups using a selector switch or if you want to have one of them for each pickup with a separate volume knob for each pickup, VT/VT.

If using in something that has VVT or VBT, like a Jazz Bass, Gibson Thunderbird, etc then use the Bass Duo 6 or 10.

Really the best option is to just call them. Tell exactly what you're using one in, what you want out of it, any mods or options and you will be given invaluable advice, told your options, and the pros and cons of different ways of setting it up.

Trying to get my head around what all the hype is (it dose look like a religion here) so a bit worried what to say.
To me it looks like a big Switch with Caps hooked up, and i guess a set value resister.
Think one of these guys from here was talking of a
1P12 Switch hooked up to a 1M5 Resister in parallel with a load of different range of Caps, then folled by a 15K or direct to ground,

I ordered a Bass six and a Duo Six.
I wanted to put one in my P5 and the other in my SG bass.
It was easy to install the one in my P.
I had two problems with the Duo in the SG.
The Duo is to long to fit properly in the SG control cavity. It will fit if I used some washers under the plate.
The other problem is that you can only get the bass models with a solid shaft. I want to keep my Gibson knobs. I searched the web and could not find a Gibson type knob for a solid shaft.
I ended up putting it in my Jazz.

I really like it in both basses and I am happy with the six (they were back ordered on the tens).
It works great on the P5 and can not wait to hear it when my custom Curtis Novak pick up arrives.
I have a EB-AA FatBucker coming from Curtis for my SG. I really wish I could put a Duo Six or Ten along with it.
