I love everything about this bass!

What are the settings of your volume knobs that captures this tone? Strings?

The neck pickup a bit less. Tone a bit back. The Dunlop strings bassmatters adviced me, grey package with blue label.

Since these basses aren’t very common, I thought I would post some pictures. This bass is by far the most well constructed bass I’ve played. Every detail has been meticulously thought about. My wife ordered it for me as a wedding gift in 2015 and Tom was nice enough to finish it in time. He engraved our names and the date on the weight in the control cavity.

I feel pretty fortunate to be able to own one of these basses now.
I’m very impressed with the build quality and tone.
Maybe wish it had a 5th string as I’m a 5 string player at heart, but just being able to get my hands on a Stenback is difficult enough!

Just circling back, this bass is headed back to its previous owner.
It was a ton of fun to own...but I'd much prefer it was a 5 string.

I got a bunch of messages on this bass after posting it, so I'd rather close the loop at state that it's no longer in my possession.

I always enjoy owning instruments of this calibre just for the experience and then end up passing them on.
That's the beauty of talkbass.

I definitely understand everything that many have mentioned in this thread, definitely a treat to own and I can see why these are holy grails.

Heard recently Tom is officially done building as well. I think this was confirmed on Instagram?

Just circling back, this bass is headed back to its previous owner.
It was a ton of fun to own...but I'd much prefer it was a 5 string.

For the amount of time he puts into an instrument....I can understand the value.

Yes they are. It’s really the only instrument I will never sell. And I had a few.

I was fortunate to be able to acquire the fretless from darkbass this week! I am super stocked to try a Stenback after so many years of wanting one. The bass is still in transit and I should see it on Tuesday. Tuesday will be like Christmas for me!

I was curious as to the build time for a new Stenback so I emailed Paul Sips and he said Tom is no longer building basses.

Thay meticulously neat control cavity tells me all I need to know about the builder's attention to detail. That is freakishly neat. If he cares that much about things that will rarely be seen, the fit and finish of the outside must be superb.

Devon basses are like this, also, as are the Japanese flagship Bacchus Handmade models...pristine wiring.
