Stenback Bass

Since these basses aren’t very common, I thought I would post some pictures. This bass is by far the most well constructed bass I’ve played. Every detail has been meticulously thought about. My wife ordered it for me as a wedding gift in 2015 and Tom was nice enough to finish it in time. He engraved our names and the date on the weight in the control cavity.

Beautiful bass and what a wife! I read somewhere the build time is three to four years. I also read there is no wait list, Stenback builds basses and offers them through select dealers and to consider yourself very lucky if you ever get your hands on one. Since you own a Stenback can you please give us some info?

That is a tough question to answer. When my wife ordered it, Tom was still accepting orders. She ordered it direct in January and we got it in the middle of October. I very much appreciate Tom going through the extra effort to get it done in time.

However, now Tom doesn’t take any orders and he has even removed his email from the website. I know that he sells through two dealers, but the only newer ones I’ve seen are Scott Devine’s pair and the black one that Paul Turner recently got.

I’ll try to post some video of the bass when I have some time.

Thank you for the info I heard Paul's Bass Matters gets Stenback's, but they have a long list of people waiting and ready to buy when one becomes available.

I just received my Stenback, 2 weeks ago. They are in a class by themselves. The tone and playability are off the charts. Here is a picture of mine. Swamp ash body, heated maple neck and fingerboard, in November black. Moose chin bone for a nut. Mine weighs 8 pounds.View attachment 3824421View attachment 3824421

That's very cool. I'm a big fan of the look of a pickguardless J-style bass.
