Sterling By Music Man Ray34ca tone pot

Hello fellow bass players!

Quick question: do any of you know the value of the tone pot found on a SBMM Ray34ca (2 bands preamp)? I just acquired a mint green one that is almost flawless except for a bent tone pot. I have asked the question straight to SBMM but I have not received any answers.

By tone pot, do you mean the treble or bass control? On the original Stringray preamp, the treble control is a 1 Meg reverse log taper pot; the bass control is a 100K log taper pot. Of course, it's possible that the Ray34 uses different values. You can verify by reading the code on the back of the existing pot, assuming it's not covered by solder. (@SBMM might also know.)

I was looking for the treble one. The problem is that nothing is written on the back of the treble ans bass pot...

Assuming the Ray34ca uses the same values, where where can I find a 1 Meg reverse log taper pot with a long shaft? I have been looking for the past hour without success (eBay, Reverb, internet).

The problem is that nothing is written on the back of the treble ans bass pot...

Sometimes pot value is written at the other side.

I am aware of it, but there is no way to see that part of the pot unless I unsolder it due to the PCB. I just don’t want to mess with it without having a replacement in hand.

The problem is that the original Stingray preamp pot may or may not be the right value. You need to determine that first, or your replacement might not be right. Best would be to if you could get a response from Sterling by Music Man.

Not holding my breath for a response by Sterling. It’s been over a week now. I’ll try them again tomorrow. Worst case scenario, I’ll have a pot without a home...

Well...
I did receive the pot from G&L. Correct value, but everything else is wrong. Way too big, shaft too short.
At least it did not cost me a lot...
