Sterling by Music Man SUB4 vs OLP Bass

Hey guys, I'm a beginner (I play a Squire P-bass, passive) I'm wanting to buy a sting ray style bass. I found the SUB4 and the OLP.

The SUB4 is a active bass 24/7 no passive mood and the OLP is a sting ray copy 24/7 passive (I think OLP was Sterling entry model years ago, not sure..

My question is your thoughts on both basses and is it ok for a beginner to have a active bass if its like this one..

PS: Brown one is the SUB4, price is about the same

OLP was a different company that had licenee by EBMM to the Stingray. That ended, and license granted to Sterling. As far as an active bass and a beginner, I can't frankly see how the two could possibly have anything to do with each other. Once you put a battery in the active, it plays no differently, so get what feels good and sounds good to you.

I thought a active bass might be a lil more difficult cuz of the extra knobs. I think I'll probably get the SUB4 It feels better in my hands...thank you for the input

What extra knobs? Basic Stingray, it Bass/treb/vol . . . not unlike a lot of passives. Yeah, not just a single tone knob, but not "challenging" at all. (If anything, far more versatile!) Sure, there are actives out there with a lot of knobs, but it's not a given, esp.in the price range of lower end basses it seems like you are looking at.

I'll figure it out.. you think the SUB4 is a better value/quality bass than the OLP

They are both hit and miss, but I think the general consensus is that the Sterlings are better than the OLP's.

Owned many of both. Sbmm is better imho.
