Steve Swallow + Gibson = ??

It's a modified Gibson EB-2. The pickup at the bridge seems much bigger than the regular bridge PUP I've seen on any dual pickup EB-2. And the neck PUP might be the stock PUP with the cover off, or an after-market one. Swallow first used an EB-2 when he switched from double bass to electric after he borrowed one at a NAMM show.
Thanks for the link! I've loved Swallow's tone since I first heard him on a duet album with Carla Bley. That solo he plays is so musical and touching.

I was just fiddling with one of my basses, trying to get a sound similar to that (I lied when I said I wasn't interested in the vid- I don't want the Gibson, but I want that sound for a project I'm doing haha)

"Rivoli" was the name for the Epiphone version. They're essentially the same, made on the same Kalamazoo assembly line by the same people using the same materials. Gibson called their's the EB-2 (Electric Bass 2). It's based on the ES-335 guitars. The Epiphone version was the Rivoli for the bass and The Sheraton for the guitar.

I met and talked with Steve Swallow during a Gary Burton Jazz Clinic at Wichita State University in 1975. He had moved the neck pickup of his red Gibson EB2-D to the bridge position and the the neck position was an empty cavity with the stock pickup cover. He also was using a 62 or 63 blonde Fender Bassman head with the matching 2x12 speaker box. I believe he said he was using Roto Sound strings at the time. His setup sounded great during the clinics in the class rehearsal rooms, but his bass was hard to hear when the whole Burton group performed in the main auditorium.
