Steve Swallow's basses?

In the recent BP interview something of another album with the late robert creeley was mentioned,has anyone any news on that one?

By the way,I forgot to mention "have we told you all you thaught to know" and "the exit is via the door"-both with robert creeley.Very nice albums (hope i got the titles right)

I've ordered Deconstructed, hopefully it will arrive SOMETIME soon. :)

I'll just add the typical "Steve is a great player with great taste" comment, as I have nothing more to offer, apart from the fact he is a smokin' composer. You look at his stuff on paper and go, that doesn't work, you can't DO that, but he can, and it sounds fantastic.

I haven`t seen Reed Butler in a long time. But there are several world class bass players still playing around the Hartford area.

Dave Stoltz (Dickey Betts Band) can be seen on a regular basis.
Bob laramie ( Street Temperature/ Zywaks) can be seen on a weekly basis with the Pete Sheips band.
Craig Garfinkel (Street Temperature/ McDonald-Teague Band/ Mystery Feet) can bee seen on occasion.

All three are amazing players.

I see that Gertz and Goodrick have done a couple of records together, and you mentioned once that you used to speak to Mick regularly. Which discs can you recommend? I'm currently working through Mick's 'The Advancing Guitarist' book, but the only CD I have with him on is Swallow's 'Always Pack Your Uniform on Top'.

According to the ECM website, Steve's new album is called 'So There'. Lineup is Steve Swallow, Steve Kuhn and the Cikada String Quartet, with vocals by Robert Creeley. Release date is currently 10th November.

David, Get anything you can find with Bruce and Mick on them... some of the most tasteful jazz out there! Yeah, I used to wait for the #55 bus in the Fenway, every now and then I'd see him waiting for the same bus. Cool conversations I tell ya!

IN Passing is a great album (w/ Gomez and Surman)... I also have a Bergonzi, Gertz and Nussbaum CD that has Mick on it (It's on my iPod, I think that it is called On Again).

Biorhythms has Chaffee and Harvie Swartz (Harvie S) on it...

Sunscreams has one of my favorite Gertz tunes on it (originally on Gertz's album 3rd Eye), Deep Sea Vent, which is Bruce's musical response to "How Deep is the ocean".

Glad to hear you inquire about these greats... there is so much great, yet under-rated material in these jazz monsters!!

Please let me know what you think, once you have had a chance to listen to some, if not all of these selections.

I've been listening recently to Paul Motian and the Electric Bebop Band 'Play Monk and Powell'. (Thanks to Mike Flynn for lending me the disc - I am going through a Paul Motian phase at the moment.)

Very cool takes on those classic bop compositions, with a drums/bass/2xguitar/2xtenor lineup.

Recorded November 1998.

I've spent today listening to an audience recording of Mick's duet concert with Pat Metheny at last year's Montreal Jazz Fest. Absolutely SICK! Mostly a set of standards, with (keeping this post slightly on topic) Swallow's 'Falling Grace' in there too.

I keep Mick's book 'The Advancing Guitarist' close to hand at all times now. I've been concentrating on guitar recently, but Mick's book has a lot of ideas that are equally applicable to the bass.

I picked up a nice, if somewhat obscure CD called Tin Pan Aliens by the Danish saxophonist Hans Ulrik, with Swallow on bass and Jonas Johansen on drums. Ulrik plays a little like Dave Liebman, but straighter, so the CD comes off like a straighter version of We Three. It's a very good recording of Swallow's Citron bass.

Steve Swallow would deserve to be the subject of a thread here on the strength of his writing alone--IMO the definitive arrangement of maybe his greatest tune is from 'Crystal Silence' by Chick Corea & Gary Burton--the aforementioned 'Falling Grace'. Two monster players choose a modern classic, just before they go on to change our universe [this was '72]. If you don't have this ECM recording, you should get it, right now.

Yep, looks like a Hartke 4x10" raised to waist-height.

Steve always uses his WW amp. On the road he just plugs into whatever cabs are provided. I've seen him use SWR, Trace Elliot and even an Ampeg 8x10"!
