Still having problems...

Hi. I have a Schecter Stiletto Extreme 4 and an Acoustic B20 amp, and a Monster Cable. Recently when I've gone to play the bass will be fine for a bit, but then I'll start to do pull-offs and such and then it'll cut out. A friend of mine said it could be a limiter.. ? I don't know what's wrong , if it's the cable, the amp, or the cord. All are less than 6 months old. Any advice on figuring out which it is or where to go from here?

Have you ever changed the battery? Does the bass cut out or make crackling noise if you wiggle the cord?

The Acoustic B20 doesn't have a limiter, so your friend is wrong about that.

I DID change the battery. It does crack when I play with the cord.. so I'm thinking... it's the cord or the .. part where I plug it into my bass. How would I go about fixing it, if it's my bass?

It could be the cable, or it could be the jack (the thing you plug the cord into).

Take the control cover off of the back of the bass. If it has an open jack like the one on the left, you can try bending the two metal prongs back in a little to be sure they're making good contact. (You can plug the cable in with the cover off to see how the plug fits in and makes contact...)

However, if it has a closed "barrel" jack like the on on the right, you can't do anything to fix it and it would have to be replaced. In that case, I'd try and be sure that it isn't the cable first--Monster has a lifetime warranty, I think, so you should be able to get a replacement at Guitar Center or wherever you got it.

It has the one like the one on the right. I dunno. My friend plugged his bass into that cord on a different amp and said it worked fine for him, so I'm thinking it is the bass. .. Which sucks, because I bought it 2 months ago. :/

Since the bass is so "new", I'd either have the shoppe you bought it from fix it under warranty (if it applies) or, just have them throw in a new, quality jack (switchcraft & the like)

It's a 5 dollar, 5 minute repair if yer handy with a soldering pen.

It is my understanding that Monster cables have a larger ball on the connector tip, that will over time stretch the connectors inside your output jack.
I would have the output jack on the bass replaced and I would throw out the monster cable and buy a good quality cable and be done with it! (IMHO)

I agree. Monster Cable connectors are known to have a different diameter, which can bend jacks. I'd dump it Brand X cable will work as well and create no problems.
