Sting Ray Punch

After owning 3 previous Sting Rays, all of which weighed a ton, I bought a Classic
SR (a new one) because they were so light. It just doesn't have the punchy tone the old ones had, maybe because of the lighter weight? Anyone else experience this and what did you do to correct this issue.

Are you sure it's a Classic and not a Special? The Specials are the new lightweight ones with the smaller bridge, roasted neck, and updated electronics. Some people say they don't have the same punch as an older Stingray. I've never heard of the Classics being particularly lightweight, or having any issues with not enough punch.

You are correct...it is the Special, not the classic. My mistake. Anyone have any luck changing pick ups for a punchier tone?

The answer is a Sterling. Lighter weight, most punch.

Did they have the same EQ bands? The 2 and 3 band EQs are moderately different, although I've heard plenty of punchy 3 band rays

Sell it and get something else, like a Classic.
Don't butcher it with aftermarket parts. Stock EBMM components are top notch and as good as, or better, than anything in the aftermarket. They are the only mass produced basses that don't need anything done to them to make them "better".
