Stingray Pickups... Too Sensitive?

Take it to a good bass tech and have it setup. He can lower the pickup, check the neck and the string brindge saddles. This IMO will help a lot if not solve the whole problem.

About the quiet G-string on SRs, I had that problem with my SR5. It also was prone to sliding of the fretboard. The volume difference with the G really bothered me. I like the tone a lot but I just sold it a couple of weeks a go to a good friend.

I've currently got Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinkys, which I believe are Nickel Rounds.

That they are.

All of my SR's have a lower volume G & D string. I have three of them, so I don't think it's just yours. As previously stated, it's just a characteristic of Stingrays in general.

+1 to making sure the pickups aren't too close to the strings. It will kill your sustain very quickly because of the magnets.

I have never had this 'G' issue with the five StingRays I own now, and the dozen I had over the years

I suggest resetting/adjusting the pickup height. It's probably too close picking up more unwanted noise or worse, the string may be hitting the poles when you play and the magnetic pull kills the string vibration.
