stingray price increase!?

i have just started looking for a used stingray 5 and everybody is wanting a little more for these beauties than i rememberin the past, i see people paying around 1000 bucks.

so i now i feel dumb looking for one around 850? am i wrong?

These instruments hold their value extremely well. The price for them new has gone up a little, and the used price is holding extremely well. You can still find them for $850 on ebay every now and then, but private dealers will want more, as well as most people here in the classifieds. $950 for an excellent condition sr5 is reasonable. Remember, SR5s cost a bit more than SR4s new, around $1400-$1500, depending on the options.

Considering how durable Stingrays (and Sterlings, and Sabres, and probably Bongos as well) are, paying a wee bit more is still worth it.

Honestly I think Ernie Ball doesn't charge enough for their instruments, considering the quality. I'm not complaining, just making an observation.

Count yourselves lucky! New, these babies cost $2,250 in Germany and the UK. And that's the shop price, not the full retail!

We still lap 'em up though.

i ordered one 3 months ago, and Beaver from BassCentral said that there is a Musicman Price Increase (i ordered mine before this). He didn't tell me how much it was going to be, but it seems the prices for a new one are going to go up.

Heres what I remember from this topic when it came up on the EB boards.

The price upgrade will be approx $200 on each model. That increase will be on the list price, not the sale price. Given the dealer, a $200 increase in list price will be about $100-$125 on sale price ( I think).

Also, (IIRC) this is the first price increase on EBMM instruments in 7-10 years. Look at the price increases of companies like Fender over the same amount of time and you will find that the EBMM price increase isnt that bad after all.

As far as a used StingRay 5 for $850. Keep your eyes on eBay, and that easily accomplished.

You make a fantastic point. EBMM is hard to match (near impossible IMO) in terms of quality among production basses.

i do keep in mind that IMO other companies do make great instruments like the new skyline laklands, and the new kingston Z MTD's, BUUUUT, these are equivelant to what i call the "squire" basses of these companies. correct?

Up until the bongo, Ernie ball made one 5 string and thats the stingray. Its what they concentrate on and their flagship 5 string, so you do get a lot of bang for the buck so to speak. Its definetly a professional bass. And another IMO point, i dont see what we refer to as "pro's" using the cheaper MTD's and Skylines, they have the $$ and endorsemnts to get the expensive top of the line of those companies. But "pro's" use Ernie ball products all over. Keep kickin ass ernie!

Were focusing it in the wrong direction, if EBMM can make fine instruments at reasonable prices WTH is wrong with the other brands and why do we keep buying overpriced gear (specially in europe)?. Music world is full of working ppl not pros with lots of cash...
