I've come across a MM Stingray (black on black maple fret board) for $250

the only catch is all the electronics have been unplugged (to apparently make it passive and sound like total balls) and its a bit beat up (no problem to me)

should i go for it or just let it be?

You could always add in your favorite electronics/pickups to it, or just plug the electronics back in. --Kent

I'd go for it. Add some cash and you can get that thing back to its chunky StingRay sound.

i have played it before actually and it plays really well

the reason its going so cheap is the guy is quitting music all together.

he actually came a across it as a trade. he traded his gibson grabber (black on black) for it

But part of the quality of the stingray is it's playability. It can be restored back to normal if all the parts are their for under $100.

If you don't get this PM me with details. Or if it's local I'll pay you to get it for me. I don't have a stingray but wanted one. I'd say get it though.

Look at the screws connecting the neck. Stingrays have 6 I believe. OLP's and other copies have 4 usually.

This sounds like an all time gret deal. Check the trussrod before you buy.

If you have an extra $150-$200 to put into it and get the electronics back in order, I'd say yes, buy it. But if the electronics have been monkeyed with, it's no longer a StingRay in my opinion. It's just a $200 bass. The pickups and electronics are (mostly) responsible for the StingRay sound. Changing that changes the character of the bass.
