Good people down there. Lots of history. Jimmy was basically the 'repair guy' at a mom and pop music story on Cherokee St. years ago. When 'fast Eddie' (from the famous Ye Old Music Shop in Marissa, IL (about an hour or so from St. Louis.... Bob Heil's shop!) opened a store on 7th St. downtown, Jimmy Gravity opened a larger repair shop right next door. When Eddie 'split town':eek: about 15 years ago or whatever, Jimmy opened up a full service guitar/bass shop.

That Marissa shop was amazing when I was growing up in the early 70's. Since Bob Heil owned it and did sound for lots of groups (the Who, the Dead on occasion, etc.), it was quite a hang. After the tours, these bands would dump all their stuff in there for sale.... massive stacks of Marshall's, Hiwatts, Orange, etc. Quite overwhelming for a kid!

Lots of history there. Fun fact... Jimmy and his partner at the time (Meelon), made one of the first 5 strings (modeled after Tommy Kennedy's original Fodera) for Eddie Van Halen (if I remember right, in the early 80's), and it was used on a couple of his albums. I forgot what they named it (I think Apostrophe, it is listed on the 'credits'.

And, for those of you who live outside the city and don't hang down there much, the Broadway Oyster Bar, right down the street on Broadway, is a great place for a cocktail, an oyster grinder, and to hear some good tunes.

I'm in town gigging most weekens throug the end of June, but they are all pretty much 'quick in and outs', so no time for the GTG. Wish I could hang with you all.

I have a good memory! Here is a blurb from 'the Van Halen Encyclopedia:

Love Walks In.....Sammy's lyrics for this song, from the 5150 album, were inspired after reading the book Aliens Among Us by Ruth Montgomery (reprint edition: Fawcett Books, 1993). Sammy believes aliens have visited him in the past and continue to have a profound affect on his career and life.

Mike used an Apostrophe 5-string bass on this track.

OK, I'm on a role for you St. Louis guys (I was born and raised there, and played full time there from around 74 to the early 90's.

The hottest 'disco' band in the late 70's was the house band at a club in Troy, IL, right off of Highway 70. The building is still there (called 'Westview' now). The drummer.... Dave Weckl! They had a 6 night a week deal over there and played late. So, often we would head over and catch their last set after our gigs.

OK, enough 'old guy from St. Louis talk'. So many memories.... partying with the Sheiks, opening tons of shows for Mama's Pride out at the Granary, etc., etc. It was a great scene back then.

I will probably stick with Mojo's as the GTG location since Bob Moggio already said OK, but Gravity Strings might be a good location for a future STL GTG since it is very close to many on the East side and is not as far as Edwardsville for Missouri people.

Ken, you need to come on down at the end of June! Guys, I will see about getting a firm date set this weekend.:)

I know when I got my TL-5, they were the only store with new Gotoh tuners in stock. They also installed it at no charge without me even asking!:) I got swamped at rehearsal and with paper grading this weekend. I will try to get a firm GTG date on Monday!

Hmmm...I wonder if I can convince my girlfriend this would be a great time to do a weekend in St. Louis, then stop off at the GTG for a couple hours?:D My guess is the city will be hot and full of tourists then, but there's an outside chance.
